I have been looking for a suitable printer with good quality printing capabilities and I liked the results of the iP6700D review, which I read here:
http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Canon%206700D/page_1.htm
One thing I would like to find out from any of you who own one is how heavy it is on ink consumption. I would like to use it for general printing tasks as well, although I don't do a lot of that. Is it suitable for general document printing without wasting loads of the black cartridge? I realize it says in the review that it is good as a workhorse printer, but I'm looking for some of your opinions.
Thanks very much,
Mike

I have the model before it, the 6600D and I just use it for photo's, not that I print that much anyway. Does a great job. Doesn't seem too heavy but not done much mono printing on it all so can't really comment other than generally. I have a cheap but good Samsung laser for day to day mono prints. Was better value than a set of Canon replacements, which are not cheap. Just replacing the black cartridge may be a solution for you but I prefer laser mono quality too.

Thanks Condyk. Sounds good, but I'll have a look at the replacement ink cartridge prices first. :-D
Any other Pixma owners out there?

Yes, I have that exact printer. I have only recently started printing text - because I used to have a laser printer - but now I don't. So, I cannot give you advise about it's ink use for B&W text. But I have used it a lot for color photos. I think its ink consumption is a bit heavy. I print at the highest quality though, so that may have something to do with it. But I don't think I have used it extremely heavy, yet I have already replaced all the cartridges. The picture quality is great as long as you use a good quality paper. I have had great results with Ilford Classic Pearl. Speed of prints are fine - but I have never cared much about speed of a printer. But yeah, I would say it uses ink a bit faster than I would like.

i own this printer as well. i have 10 8x10 prints on the wall, and i have printed at least 10 others as tests and such. someone on this site had a detailed breakdown as to exact number of prints he was able to make on a set of cartridges.
from what i understand, the cartridges that come with printers are not full.
i am happy with this printer. cartridges are $20 each i think i saw. but there is 6 catridges, which is a plus.

Thanks Rob.
I have been looking at replacement cartridges and was wondering why there is a photo cyan and photo magenta cartridge along with a standard ones, but no photo yellow.

light magenta and light cyan are the two extra cartridges compared to the standard 4 cartridge printer, but this is geared toward photo more than document printing. from what understand and read, this ip6700d doesn't do as good as your ink jet for text printing, seems jagged-like. i wouldn't use this printer for documents and general printing, i'd get a regular printer for that and keep this just for photos.

i just flipped the lid on the my 6700d, i see that the yellow is flashing, i have to look this up and see what it means. it's the original cartridge, so maybe it's low.

Thanks for the information Rob. :-) I hardly ever do document printing, so I'll get the iP6700D for its photo capabilities. :-D

Steady flashing means empty. A flash every 2-3 seconds means it will be empty soon.

I have an MP960, the reviews all said text printing wasn't very good. It prints text perfectly. Sometimes you have to take reviews with a grain of salt.
