the G9 is a dinky little camera but somewhat vulnerable on its own thrown in a bag or pocket. What wallet, pouch, bag are you using? I like Crumpler but they have all kinds and too confusing. Any other nice options?

I have found that the LowePro 'D-RES 8' is an ideal fit for the camera and has an internal pocket for one spare SD card in its plastic case. I already had one of these that I use to protect my Tom-Tom sat nav, and I tried to get another for the G9. It doesn't seem to be available any more. I've now got a Samsonite Trekking DF10 which is a similar good fit for the G9. Both have shoulder straps (removable), and a belt loop which is how I use them.

Cheers ... and welcome. I see how they would work fine. I have always found LowePro and similar a bit boring tho'. I like attractive design that is also functional. I'm thinking maybe a Crumpler is the way to go. More a sleeve or pouch style than a bag.

LowePro D-PODS 50. Best for the G9.

1. Made of Neoprene ( wetsuit material) waterproof, cushioning ( an SD-550 in a D-PODS 20 once fell 6 feet to a granite floor in Grand Central station with NO damage)

2. No zipper to scratch the camera and a velcro flap that gives instant access.

3. 2 storage areas for cards and extra battery.

4. the D-PODS 50 fits the G9 perfectly even with an RRS L bracket on it.

The Crumpler is great... but it's narrower top does not absolutely seal rain out from above like the LP. Also I like the non-discript look of the D-PODS as it attracts less attention.:D

Nah, don't fancy that one either ;-) Seems I'll have to go to a proper SHOP! Dontcha just hate that? I want a zippy case like the Crumpler Gimp for laptops. Don't like that RRS one either.

LowePro Apex 100 AW is a great fit with the LensMate adapter & a filter attached, plus room for extra batteries, another filter, mem cards and even a small cleaning kit. If you don't mount a LensMate or Canon adapter, the Apex 60 AW is an excellent choice.

Both come with built in rain covers. www.lowepro.com.

Yup ... looks a very nice, classic option. Tasteful ;-) will consider that seriously. Pricey tho eh?

I think SC-DC55A is pricey, but since it stays on my camera, I am getting my money's worth out of it. I find it just so handy to use. The lens remains protected, I can't tell how many times I grabbed the camera before getting the case and somehow got a thumbprint on the lens.

Ok pals ... have gone with the Canon SC-DC55A. Looks cool and snug. Reminds me of my old Russian Rangerfinders, the original poor blokes Leica ;-)

I ordered the above 4 days ago from a Japanese seller (jyuuoku) on ebay and it's already here, brand new and exactly as described. Just thought I'd let the U.S. people know in case you are looking for one.

I got my SC-DC55A in 3 days from the same eBay seller that folks here are talking about. I absolutely love the old-school look and feel of the case. I keep that case on all the time unless I need to throw it on the tripod. It has small cutouts to fit either the neckstrap or in my case, the ProStrap wrist strap I bought for it. Even with the SC-DC55A case on the G9, I can fit it in the small carry bag I have for the camera that has my memory cards and charger, etc. Wonderful product.

Well, my search for the optimal G9 camera bag goes on. I can't make myself oversize a bag so I have room for future/maybe accessories The Apex 60 I initially bought was very suitably sized for the camera itself. I'm taking my third bag back and have exhausted my search in local stores.

Mrock has something that seems doable, a Cascade bag (H- 5.25 x D- 4 x W- 7.75 inches) and add on Ozark and Niagara for lenses/flash. I was really impressed with the Apex 60 internal and overall construction. Too many bags are not quick acccess, but I guess that is the trade off for adequate weather protection.

Anyone had their hands on a Mrock bag. Opinions?
Kiesler DX330/320? I've yet to see an open view as they do larger bags.
Adorama Slinger Bag, Single Strap Backpack / Shoulder Bag
Naneu Pro, some nice features, but have'nt worked through their web site.

I know bags have been kicked around here, but I don't see one to snugly hold a G9 with an adaptor mounted with telephoto/wide, flash, charger etc. stored separately. If you've seen one with add ons like Mrock, possible belt mounted, yell back. I guess that Adorama above might not be bad because it's slim and tall.

Well, my wife is finally ready to leave. I'll get off her g/f's computer and finish this later.

Well the ThinkTank site does have some very nice looking stuff. Anyone have any experience with holster type bags? Who has a couple lenses/flash, etc. and a bag not oversized and can snugly store a G9 body with the adapter mounted. Here is what I am considering for a configuration in a holster type.

Well, as my search goes on, tittering on a Urban Disguise 10, http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_UrbnDsgs.php
I revisited Tamrac and focused on a 5402, Superlight 1, http://www.tamrac.com/5401.htm
Sure seems to hold what you can add on to a G9, other than a mombo jombo flash or something.

Maybe one of the bags that came with my L lenses will work for my new G9. :)

*EDIT* G9 with the lens bag that came with my 24-70 f/2.8L. The new home for my new toy.

I ended up getting a Lowepro Apex 60 and it fits the G9 snuggly with a couple cards and minor what not. Quite protective, too.

Hi,

Here are some pics of my G9 in it's Retro case. I think the case is fab. It has a tripod bush so you don't need to take it out of the case to put it on a tripod or monopod. Also the extra case around the front adds to the grip so it's much easier to hold.

Ok, that is just awesome. I already wanted a G9, but now that I see that retro case I'm getting one for sure!

The Lowepro z-10 is a nice fit. It has a pocket in the front for an extra sd card or the cable.

After a lot of thinking, checking the 4 corners of the web, considering hard cases over padded, deciding if the case was just for the camera or to include its accessories too, I gave up. I simply gave up, but knew I had to find some form of protection for my little black beauty so I drove down to the local Rite Aid Pharmacy and bought an inexpensive, Chinese made (most probably are), bag that cost like 12 bucks. It offers 2 zippered compartments, multiple plastic squeeze buckles so the bag can be carried over shoulder or neck or strapped to a belt or made into a fanny pack. The kids are gonna just love seeing their old man with a fanny pack. Actually, I promise to use that feature only while cycling or skiing; there are strict standards of behavior I must observe in order to remain a member of my household, you know. The case is big enough to store the camera with its hand strap (fashioned from the neck strap (see topic thread somewhere here.)). I can also carry the charger and extra memory sticks ta boot.

I think eventually I'll get a Pelican plastic case, but not right away. I wish I could offer a web link, but I couldn't find one. I can tell you it is blue/black and has a label "Travel Smart". I think I am. The thing is totally unassuming so I expect that it won't draw a whole lot of attention.

I just want something cute. I like a little fashion with functionality. I want to be able to carry another memory card, my ID, a credit card and a lip gloss-- is this too much to ask? I want it to be small.
I went on cutecamecase.com and there seems to be a few possibilities there. I also like the retro case, but it won't do for all occasions at least for me.

Take a look at the mountainsmith Flash series. I have a medium and it fits the camera well, has an internal pocket for second sd card and a small shoulder strap.

Look at the large if you need more room:

My G9 fits well in a Lowepro Rezo 50.

I'm thinking of getting the Sunpak PZ40X II flash to go with the G9. Based on some posts over at DPreview this seems like a good options for a small ETTL compatible flash with adjustable head.

Now I'm wondering what small bag would fit the G9 and the Sunpak? (I don't plan on lens adapters or anything else - just smallest bag that can fit G9 and Sunpak. Also I like the small pouch type cases.)

Thanks

I can't believe I missed that Flash series at Mountainsmith as long as I've been looking. I do believe I would have opted for that. I had decided until I actually get my add on lenses and make sure which flash I end up with to hold off getting a gear bag and get a small bag for just the G9 till then. I wanted slim as possible, and was looking at their Exposure series. I will say they have very nice looking bags and cases. But it seemed a bit bulky no doubt affording excellent protection. I opted for an OPTech Zippeez neoprene bag just for nominal protection, and slim as I could get it for stowing in day bags or on my belt. I kept thinking I wanted just a flap with velcro for ease of access, but I will live with a zippered access I imagine.
Peeps need to post pics as they get their bags and be vocal about the fit, likes/dislikes, ease of access, etc. A lot of people have to fly blind and order sight unseen!

Of course, we should all know there is no verification as to accuracy on here as users post their opinions. Everything should be crossed checked, averaged, then flip a coin. Here is one man's opinion about that flash from Steve's Digicam reviews.
Additionally, some where saying they thought it was not digital cam friendly, but others said it was stated as ok.

"When this flash worked it produced excellent results,
however, when it malfunctioned the results were terrible.
The biggest problem I had was the recycle time. Perhaps I
got bum flash but using top notch lithium AA batteries, the
flash sometimes took up to 20 or 30 seconds to recycle. I
missed key shots as a result of this absurdly long refresh
rate. I plan on returning this flash and getting the
comparably priced Nikon SB-600. It comes highly recommended
from a professional colleague. My advice is to avoid this
flash at all possible costs."
