Badminton is the fastest racquet sport. We some time to catch up!
It looks like the shuttle is going to go into the net!
It's a well timed shot but not much on the player's face for expression. The people in the background can be seen quite clearly some are a bit bored! Perhaps you can use a larger aperture to increase the bokeh. Backgrounds are the hardest thing for me. We've got very bright backgrounds here and it's difficult to isolate the shuttle.
Was this with the Mark III?

It was a great tumble over the net and won him a point, how he does it...who knows....
This was with the 30D at ISO 1600 taken last year. Found it whilst archiving some photos. Your right about the crowd, they do look bored (I shall PS smily faces next time )
I am off today to shoot this team again, (mkiii)..lets see what happens..

Good picture. You guys don't know how lucky you are. I was shooting Badminton in 1955 to 1964. the fastest film then was 400iso and lighting at places like Wembley Pool was (cant find a polite word) using flash was then very much taboo at sporting events.
Times have changed and very much for the better "Good Luck and Enjoy"

Quite good. I'd be tempted to crop and rotate slightly as the net looks over so slightly wonky.
I've shot badminton once before an it's tough. What lens were you using to shoot through the net?

so how did one take good badminton photos then? players move just as fast then compared to now, and halls (from old videos) seems really dark.

jmpsmash. Its was imposable to get good action shots in Tournaments like the All England and other tournaments in the UK. The action (with flash) picture's of the players then in Badminton Magazines had been generally taken at club nights or in the warm up session well before the game started. No problem using flash for the presentation or off court in the players area.

khall,
you were at the All England back in the 50's and 60's? you must have seen many legendary players.

One of your of countries best in the sixties was Judy Hashman I have taken shots of her a few times. If I remember correctly she played with her sister Sue one of the years.
Judy was then living in the UK and Sue was then living in Ireland.
We had Charoen Wattanasin living in Liverpool for a few years, Ken Derrick and I would be on one side of the court and we would practice with him for about two hours two nights each week.

wow.
do you happen to still have any of these photos? it will be eye-opening to see them as we nowadays only see their names on historic records.
how about players from other countries?

I came to live in Australia in 1966, as my negatives of Badminton and Tennis players would be of more use in the UK. I gave them all to the publicity person for Cheshire Tennis and Badminton he was also the organizer of the Northern Badminton Tournament.

wow. what a waste if these negatives were to be forgotten. sounds like a treasure trove for a badminton fanatic and historian. do you think there is a way for you to obtain them back for a scan?
