I've finalized a deal for a 1D from a sportsshooter.com member, comes with extra battery and a 512 flash card for $2200. I'm excited to say the least.
Any one know of any links with some 1D tips and tutorials...i most likely wont have the camera for another week, and that last bit of time is always the longest.

Congratulations. You have a week to build up your strength and stamina. The camera is a brute, but a lovable one.

You can be sure of it guys.
I'm gonna try my best to get it in my hands by next friday for the football game. Otherwise you'll be getting pictures of my cat in 18 shot sequences of him looking up at me.

Good luck and lots of fun with your new camera!
So you don't need any wide angle lenses now, but start looking for the 1.4 TCON
Best regards,

Timmy.. when you get that THING to the football game.. you are going to "poop" yourself with excitement!
Download the manual from Canon.. first and foremost,.. and start reading. The controls are NOTHING like the Rebel...
If you decide to shoot jpoeg... set it to color matrix 3.. it's pretty sweet.
Spend some time in the gym :)

Thanks, i made sure it came with a manual but i never thought of reading it ahead of time. The dpreview is getting old now that i've read it 3 times
I hope i can get it by thursday or at least friday by noon, i'd hate to take a tool i dont know how to use to a football game and miss shots because of it.
Eitherway, he's giving me a 512mb flash card, puts me at a gig. At 4mp and 1gig of memory i think i'll finally have enough room to shoot strictly RAW.
I'm amped :D

Will 200 raw photos enough for your football? You seem to have to spend more money on speedy cards...

Well i dont know, we'll see. With my rebel i've made the habbit of trying to get the shot in one frame. 2.5 fps doesnt really allow you to try and get it by holding the button down. Nor do i want to become that photographer.
In the two games i've gone two i havnt shot mre then 115 a time...so we'll see.

You'll have fun playing with 8FPS..
...but in the long run.. you will want to set the camera to 3FPS or even single shot so that you can control the triggering like a sniper rifle as oppsed to a submachine gun...
Even set to a 3 fps.. the shutter response is sooo good,. you yourself with practice will easily be able to trigger the shutter at more like 5 FPS.. and do it with positive control and timing.
Remebr .. by setting to 3FPS or Single shot that does not mean that the camera will limit the speed that YOU can trigger the shutter... if your fast enough you could conceivably even hit the 8fps mark.. (but I think thats unlikely )

I can shoot a paintball gun upwards of 15bbs (balls per second)...so dont you doubt my tigger finger 8)
Is it true that there is a hack that upgrades my 1D to a 1DMKII with 8mp and lower noise?

Well i've been flipping through the digital manual and if i may say...i'm not intimidated at all. Everything seems very logical :-)

No. That's for the 300D only. And it actually kicks it up to the full 8.5 fps.
So, did you get this thing yet? You will enter a so, so different world going from the Drebel to the 1D.

BTDT with both the D60 and MKII. When the 10D was announced I said I'd never get one.
Got one.
Traded the D60 for the Drebel. Never used it. Sold it and bought a tripod and 500D.
Will I get the 20D? Not for me, but yes, for my wife in the near future. However, I will probably hang onto the 10D.
Once you go to a 1-series camera, it's difficult to, if ever, go back to anything less.

I dont intend to. I'm sure my next purchase will be a used MKII

Since you (also) shoot sports, I'm real interested to read your first shoot experience with a 1-series.

Sports photography is the only reason i'm getting the camera. It is the only part of my photography where my rebel falls short (although waiting for it to catch it's breath after a few raws is annoying too).
Does the 1D write while shootin BTW? This is partly why the 300D is so damn slow.

Ok, admitingly the subject is not framed right, but i expect the 1D to actually focus on the correct subject.

Our cameras will only do what we tell them to do, within their capabilities. It does not always work out right, but since evolving to the MKII, I'd say that I have a 95%-plus return rate from the camera.
Pretty much, when you have a 1-series and the photo is fudged-up, it's YOUR fault. ;)
BTW: Horrible photo. 8)

Hehe, yeah, there is no doubt that i've gotten some keepers. I need to get better...but i'd rather have a camera in my hand that as you say, leaves me knowing it's my fault and not the cameras.
And yes, it is a horrid photo for sure...it's a lot easier when they arnt moving

well, unless you fill the buffer almost full, otherwise you can barely catch the blinking red light indicating writing images to card. most times i find that writing is already done when i look down to check

:D ...ain't it fun! I just switched from an EOS 3 to a used 1D. So I'm learning the whole digital thing at once. I shoot motorcycles; mainly races. The 1D is amazing in it's speed. Now if I can just get the firewire card so I can adjust the camera settings and the software to use RAW.

Fun indeed, at least i'd suspect it will be otherwise it wont be a very good way to spend $2200
Kurtis Kunoth (http://www.sportsshooter.com/members.html?id=3327) From sportsshooter.com has been great. Aside from a great deal(1D, two batteries, 512mb flash card for $2200) he has communicated wonderfully and has been more then willing to help out as much as he can in any way possible.
He has to use it for work today, but tomorrow he is going to next-day air it to my front door.

Congradulations, TQ !
Don't forget about the 1.3 crop factor - suddenly your lenses will become a little bit wider than they were on 300D 8)
