Our last game of the season was played this past Saturday between two superb teams. After shooting a season of football, I think it might just be my favorite sport to shoot. Comments and Criticism appreciated.

#1 Westfield QB Mike Glennon (slated to play for NC State next year). Typical QB shot.

#2 Take a close look at the running back's helmet. These kids are hitting each other quite hard.

#3 I thought this was an interesting shot based on the low sun shinning into the helmets.

#4 This defensive end could not be stopped.

#5 A series of three photographs. The pass was rulled an incomplete pass......

I am lost on the technicality's of the game, but all pictures nice and sharp, but the big plus as far as I am concerned is that. You have captured very good facial detail.

Very good shots.. I especially like the last sequence. great focus and timing for the first shot, and then good tracking once you started.

What equipment did you shoot this with? Based on burst speed, I want to say a 40d with a nice white lens on it :D

1DMk3 with a 70-200 is my guess :).

Great shots. I wish I had more Day Games. Most of Varsity games I shot this year were under the lights, correction, under poor lighting. One was even in a thick fog.

ALL of mine were under the lights. which sucks.

these are great pictures, but i'm curious as to why that pass was ruled incomplete?

ah crap, i misread the exif and was looking at iso rather then focal length. Mk3 and 300 2.8 :(

I believe the pass was ruled incomplete due to the receiver landing out of bounds. It was very hard to tell from my position on the opposite side of the end zone. I would have thought that once the receiver crosses the goal line with the football in possesion, it would have been scored a touchdown, regardless of where he landed.

It is definately nice to shoot in daytime light. Shooting low ISO with high shutter speeds is awesome. The other big bennefit is the camera is able to focus better with the additional light.

ah, makes sense. i thought as long as your feet were inbounds as you were traveling through the air you were ok. maybe you have to hit the ground first though.
again, you're incredibly lucky and i'm incredibly jealous.
