If you want to sell the same pics you show you could just use something like SmugMug or Zenfolio, etc. and offer users the option to buy the pics you show. Probably the easiest way. Now if you are taking pics for profit you will have to answer questions of how to drive people to you site, etc. There are lots of things to think about when beginning to sell pics.

Hi,
Tried Smugmug a couple years ago, dirt cheap but the print quality was pretty poor.
Am currently using a pro account at Printroom.com, lot's of positive feedback on print quality from customers.

thanks guys, but i really like to know if a lot of people are selling the pics they have in there portfolio or if they keep them separate and just for showing off...!?
if you sell them on stock sites isn't there a conflict with user rights etc..(if you use the same images in your portfolio)
thanks

I think you'll find a lot of folks selling straight out of their portfolio sites. Personally I would stay away from the stock sites like istock, you get practically nothing for your work.

Selling photos - see signature...Exposure Manager is the best BY FAR IMO.
No need to seperate shots in a portfolio - just because you use it for that doesn't mean you have to disallow sales. Stock sites it depends, those small ones where you're getting a buck a photo is a waste of time for most, though I believe you keep the rights to all your images. Other stock companies (editorial ones for example) you have to check the fine print if they want exclusive or not. If you keep the rights to the images then you can use them for the portfolio without question. If you are giving up the rights to the company that hired you then you need permission to use them in your portfolio.

wait, fotolia looks good? That is microstock, it's $10 as a max as far as I see - that's what is considered a RIP OFF! You don't lose rights it looks like but you give them away enough, $10 for usage that should cost thousands!! Only way you'd ever see me on one of those sites is with the removal of this pesky frontal lobe. That's not good bucks, not even close.

Not sure, I just looked on there site and found one image for $40 for usage that should cost a few grand. The best site for actual stock imaging is probably PhotoShelter, but it's aimed at pros who have outlets ready to buy. Can use it for prints to...had an account but since I can't set it up for awhile decided to cancel it for awhile.
