Trying to find a good all-around backpack for travel and some hiking. Got it down to 2 choices, same price:

LowePro Primus AW:
POTN review: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=398725

Advantages:
- Can remove the camera without taking off the pack.
- Good everyday pack, great for day hikes.
- Perfect size for my current kit of 40D + 3 lenses.
- Could carry a laptop in padded sleeve in the outer shove-it pocket.
- Rain cover.

Disadvantages:
- Side opening too small if I ever add a grip.
- No dedicated laptop area (though not sure how much I'll use this, aside from airline travel).
- Looks like tripod attachment is just a strap, and the legs might be exposed every time you set the pack down.

Think Tank Airport Antidote:

Smaller version of the Airport Acceleration, which is reviewed here on POTN
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=393637

Advantages:
- Very clever design with practical features.
- Fits in overhead compartment of small planes.
- Removable padded laptop sleeve makes bag bigger or smaller (smart)
- Side pocket would protect tripod legs a little bit better.
- Room to grow as I buy more lenses.
- Rain cover.

Disadvantages:
- A bit big for my current kit.
- Not sure if it would carry as well and hold up on hikes.
- Too big/heavy for an everyday bag? (Don't currently have one.)

Anyone have experience with the Antidote? I'm a petite 5'4" so want to keep it on the small side, and this looks like it might fit better than the Acceleration. Want to grow my kit with a 10-22 and a 70-200, and flash.

Thanks for advice.

Have you thought about the Rotation 360? It's been working really well for me and I take it out about 15 miles a week on hikes. Let me know if you have any questions.

You know, I did notice this bag. Very innovative design, tons of bells and whistles. Expensive, though! Does it carry well? How much does it weigh when full of gear? Can you tweak the fit for smaller-framed people? And will it fit as an airplane carry-on?

Read the reviews. I think it is actually a better fit for a smaller frame person as the shoulder straps are attached to the pack and can't be lowered.

It is a smaller pack, that is for sure, but super-well designed and thought through....and very expandable. I'm getting the lens changer 75 and looking foward to using it as a place for my rain gear....until I can afford a really big lens that needs that case.

I've carried it loaded down at 20 lbs and haven't had any issues. One of the great features is that when you actually get your camera out to shoot, you can attach it to the shoulder straps and then leave it out and not have the weight on your neck.

Watch the videos about it here and see if you'd like it. http://www.rotation360.com/r360_video.html

Happy to send you any specific pictures you might be interested in.

Thanks, NeedsNow. I do like this bag, and it looks like a much better option for shooting on the go. I also need the option of carrying a laptop on flights...
