I got a new S5 this week and noticed a strange noise when I was in a quiet room. When it adjusts from light to dark or focuses, it makes a *tiktiktiktik, click-click* noise. Here's a video of it. Take a listen and turn up your headphones to hear it. Please let me know if this is normal or not. Thanks in advance.

Hey, you're here too! cool. BernieJ Directed me to a thread here that mentioned this from 3 weeks ago.
If anyone else has any Idea's please, help me out here. I would think if this were a widespread problem I'd have heard about it by now...

I have an S2 and it's been making that noise for 2 years now. I think it's normal, it's the AF motor and the zoom motor.

Clickclickclick here too ... They seem to be cropping up with newly purchased S5's .
I've written to Canon Canada and we'll see what they say.
( i did an exchange and the second one had the clicking problem too---- a batch problem?)

I think it is a batch problem. They might have whipped a bunch out for the holidays. Fast labor = Poor Assembly = Problematic Products.

Is my post invisible? Same lens assembly in the S2, S3, S5 same AF motor same zoom motor. My friends S2, my S2, my friends S3 all make the same noises. It's the auto focus and the zoom motor. Look at your video again, the green AF assist lamp illuminates in direct conjunction with the noise. The click noise happens every time you zoom too. I would be willing to bet that your EVF flickers a little when the noises happen too. In the movie mode the aperture and focus are in a constant state of flux, this movement is what your hear. Switch to photo mode and you'll hear this with the half press of the shutter, then re compose and half press again, you'll hear the soft clicking again.
Don't believe me?

There are many examples of this. If you are concerned send the camera off and have it repaired. My S30 and G2 made soft noises also.

Whew ... and sorry for not taking your earlier post as I should have.
It's just with a new camera and a new-to-digital person I was a little concerned. Not to mention since it was/is still in the 30 day return window I wanted this cleared up beyond a doubt.
Still... it's a shame about the audible sounds when recording a very very quiet video... ie birdwatching.
Thanks for the links and help.

Yeah thanks for the links. But my S3 didn't make noises like that. Believe that.
