EOS 1D Mark II Using 550EX Speedlight, PLEASE HELP

I recently received & used my EOS 1D Mark II with 550EX Speedlight & all the files seem to be 1/2 to 1 stop underexposed. Sorry, I deleted all the images & cannot post them. I am shooting an event soon & would appreciate any suggestions that would correct the above & setup my 1D Mark II so the images look like the Old EOS 1D imagtes. Thanks for your suggestions in advance. Have a great holiday weekend.

In order to use the 500EX(should read 550-EX, Thanks Bob) correctly with the Mark II, you have to understand the following:
1.Tv and Av are flash fill modes and the flash output will be reduced.
2. M mode has no automatic flash fill and gives the most consistent results. Just put the camera in M Mode and the flash in ETTL(II).
3. P mode allows the camera to decide whether you are in fill mode or flash as primary light source based on proprietary algorithms.
4. Flash output in ETTL II is totally independent of the active AF points.

Pay particular attention to posts from Chuck Westfall, Canon's Diretor of Technical Information.

Can I make a simple statement here?

If the underexposure you expeienced in your images was consistant, (you said ALL the files were underexposed) then isn't there an easy obvious solution?

With my MkII I find that I need to set the EC to plus 1/3 to 2/3 virtually all the time.. and this without using flash.

It is consistant.. so it is easy to remedy.

That was my inital thought as well.

I do have a question though, i'm use to the rebel that (normally) doesnt have FEC so i've obviously always just used the 550. Is there any difference between doing it in the camera and on the flash?

No.

I'm agree here. This is what Canon call E-TTL II, it "suppose" balance the subject and background even better. But I think it doesn't work well. I'm hoping Canon hear all this message and can make it right with the next firmware update.
