Bumped this one following good news: Out of 730 entrants, this one just came first place in the Australian Photography Society Award!
Yippee!!!
Went to my favourite spot this afternoon and missed getting some good BIF shots if the RBE’s again. I’ll have to settle for a couple of dozen full framers of this dragonfly instead.
Taken with 350D +400mm f/5.6L @f/6.3 1/1250s ISO200
Comments, discussion and questions appreciated.

Wow, how did you get so close?!?! Every time I try to get close to some bee-eaters, they take off. Even at 400mm, they tend to be a bit small in the frame.

That second shot is just fantastic! Focus, exposure spot on. Very jealous mate
My only nit, and it's a very small nit, is that I think the bird is a little too centered and I think it'd look even better if you re-cropped it moving it slightly to the right, giving a bit more room to look in to.
Excellent stuff!!

One of the best images I have seen in some time. Its over the top on my crappy monitor at work so I will have to see it at home where it can only look better.Excellent image!!!

Thanks ppl.
The original full pixel image looks great at about 1m in height, but the print I had made at the Fuji local shop doesn't look that hot at all.

So after looking at this photo I have concluded that it is me and not the camera (I have a 350D also) turning out "iffy" photo's.
Great detail and I love the colors of the bird.
