Many old designed prime lenses are still available today. One example is 135/2.8 soft focus which is a 1987 lens.

No they are not, but they work very well. As a matter of fact I received my first L lens about two weeks ago, and frankly I didn't see much difference between the old ones and the L. I'm sure I need more time & use to really evaluate it.
