Tried out my brand spanking new 50 f1.4 for some portrait shots. Unfortunately, my f1.8 broke in two pieces when my camera bag accidentally fell..........thus the recent urge to upgrade.
..........in any case, here are the pics.............

1) OK, but it really does nothing for me. I think that it is the sun on her face and body in the shadow . . . I dont know.
2) VERY NICE, she has a complexion that lends itself well to black and white treatment. You have a nice black black of her hair, and a nice white white of the shirt, and a very pleasing spectrum of grays throughout the rest of the shot. Her expression is casual without being sloppy. Sometimes closed eyes work, sometimes they don't, (sometimes that is the only choice you have - see my "Between a Snapshot and a Portrait"!) and in this case they work. The sense that I get is relaxed.
3) This one doesn't quite catch it for me either. As near as I can tell, I think that a more pronounced backlight would have helped. Also, the split background doesn't help the picture. Side note, tell her to wipe off the lipstick from her front tooth.
4) OH MY GOD! She has a giant stone M-tv "M" erupting from the top of her head. Enough said.
All in all, one dud, two near misses, and one well done.

Thanks Radtech!!! Appreciate your comments.
......Didn't even notice that lipstick dot on her teeth. Guess its the good 'ol cloning brush to the rescue again!!!

Expose the bridge......make sure your TV speed is under 1/200. Switch to M mode...........pop up the flash.........and shoot.
Make sure that you adjust your aperture to get a proper exposure of just the bridge.
Hope this helps.

Great pics. lovely lady. Think maybe no.1 would look better without the shades though, like to see the eyes. I was a bit worried with Radtech's comment about no.4 but now I've seen it, I like it. She seems to stand out and you don't notice the background so much. Is she Thai?
