Good pictures, the hall lighting looks to be very good. In a way to good as the background does not darken at all and can take away the interest in the players. Out of interest which hall did they play in?
Tilted badminton pictures?

the Hong Kong Open was held in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong.
for some reason this year they decided not to dim the light in the stands like they do in the All England these days. it would've made much better photographs with darken and less busy background.

i had a combination of primes for the Hong Kong Open. 50/1.4, 100/2, 135/2, i also have other lenses like 70-200/2.8 and 24-70/2.8 but i rarely use them.

I don't think they ever dim the lights for badminton.

i have seen some photos of the HKO with very dim lights at the stand. i must have been mistaken by the contrast with the bright light in the court area.

this one of Lilyana is excellent, perfect timing for the pose, expression and the shuttle.
the one of Zhu Lin also good timing, but unfortunately the lighting don't make her face look too flattering.

flickserve, what white balance did you use? i find 3700K and +9 tint to be most pleasing even though white card says 3100K and +9 tint.

did you have WB set as "As Shot" or "Auto" in LR?"As shot". Just looked it up.
I just tried taking the white balance from Tony Gunawan's shirt. It gives a reading of 4000K. That gives warmer colours which is OK for me.

the lighting in QE is strange. they have warmer light for the court than on the sides.
so i am using 3700K for court photos, and 4000K for off-court ones, and they turn out to be OK.
a couple of hundred K is down to personal preference.
