I have noticed that this HD it only has USB 2 no Firewire. This is the light green model tends to be very slow.

I usually connect it with my iMac. no I don't have any Windows software install. I only have images and usually I open my files using DPP or Image Browser.

I would welcome any comments.

BTW I have some older int HD using as an Ext with an outer casing and by far they are more responsive.

what are you looking for comments on exactly? I use an older 250 Maxtor and it runs fine on my PC with USB2. I have no probs... its not unusual for folks to use old HD's that they stick in boxes as an external drive..

I am trying to find out if anybody had similar experience, just like I normally get whenever I post a question.

I'm also confused about this post.

USB only. That should have been printed on the packaging. It comes in different colors? The green one's are slow, or is it because it uses USB an not Firewire?

Are the "more responsive" ones Firewire?

I've never used one btw.

It should be as fast as any other USB hard drive, unless there is some problem with it. I have both Firewire/USB combo drives on my Mac, as well as USB 2. The Firewire ones seem to be faster, but the USB ones are very fast. You could always use Disk Utility to check the external drive. Just make sure to back it before you make any changes. Is the drive full already?

Well, USB2 is 400Mb, and Firewire can run at 400Mb or 800Mb, so in some instances firewire devices are notably faster. External disks are all about the interface though, and it's not surprising that poor performance has resulted, because most people incredibly believe that cost/GB is the sole deciding factor. Thus manufacturers are pressured to lower prices, therefore costs, therefore quality.

Do you have a sustained data transfer speed you can share? Like "moving 100GB in large files"?

Thanks for your replies, but I don't know why my posting has caused so much confusion.
All I'm trying to figure out if there is any thing that is typical wrong with this Ext HD.

Yes, this is the light green model with a small bright (almost) florescent light on the front side.

No, unfortunately, I don't have any stats, but with the naked eye I see that it's very slow. As I said, I have a couple of Old HD, that I'm using as an Ext HD with a casing and they respond very quickly. (connected via USB 2)

Now keep in mind that I am using the Maxtor with iMac so I was hoping if somebody had the same type of set up as I do.
