watching me photograph insects, no doubt hoping i'd turn up a worm. I don't know if American Robins are so fearless of man but the European Robin will happily perch a couple of feet away. DSLR had MPE65 attached but luckily I had my G6 in the bag.

european robins are a bit skittish as they usually live in wooded areas away from man, they come over here in winter for the warmer climate, the British resident robin on the other hand is so friendly you can get it to eat out of your hand, it will see off the invaders with great vigour.
I like the pose on this shot and the background is is a nice colour

Nah, North American robins usually scurry away when someone approaches, they're seen "running" along grassy areas (like a roadrunner) but eventually they take off in flight if someone approaches too closely (8ft).
That's a really neat perspective head-on shot. Don't see too many of these around. I like the blending of colors in your photo. Nice!

Toby - that's a pretty damn good shot, especially given since you used the G6! Pretty looking bird as well, my only critique would be that there's not quite enough DOF to keep both the eyes and beak fully in the focus zone.

Great photo. Getting close can beat good equipment in may occasions....

I've noticed that all robins appear to have a notch of whitish feathers in the centre of their red breasts. The shape of this notch varies considerably, enabling one to recognise individuals.
Well caught with the compact.

i agree with george above. i was in the florida keys vacationing some many years ago, and migrating were ovenbirds, the males black and orange and the females were grey/yellow. they got very close to me, and i took pics of them with a vivitar film camera, they were great, because the birds were 3 feet away!
GREAT SHOT BTW!
I think the colors are awesome, different from the american robin

Maybe its just because they are different, but your Robins are much "cuter" than our Robins. Very nice portrait shot.
