How about telling me what you think I can do to improve these shots - just started digital after long absence from photography

shot 1
10D; 100-400 @ 100mm; f/11; 1/20; ISO100

Shot 2
10D; 100-400 @ 260mm; f/11; 1/30; ISO100

shot 3
10D; 100-400 @ 220mm; f/8; 1/30; ISO100

Thanks

Jerry

Well I thnik that I like #2 the best. But they are triplets!

Well -- from the point of view of this set , its is interesting, accurate, and technically fine for the captured situation. But I think that the light is poor and the mood is limited so the image -- while fine -- is not a better than average.

We need something special in all great photos. Perhaps in this setting we need, great shafts of light cutting through the garden on a misty ... or ... dappeled light touching a half dozen blooms with something special about the subject flower ( a butterfly, etc) .

Well done. You camera can't fail. It needs your genius to capture nature in a more unique moment in time. Agreed?

Jerry -

Perhaps you could try shooting a bit more wide open (f/4.5). For example, in the first shot, I'd love to see the leaves in the background/foreground blurred, leaving the pistal (sp?) sharp.

Welcome back to the world of photography.

should a macro shot be in full focus or partial focus or does it just depend on the situation?

As the guy on the witness stand said, "Maybe yes... and maybe no!"

Do a search for JZuan & look at some of his flowers & see what you think.
I like #1. #s 2 & 3 need cropping to get rid of the hot leaf at the top - it distracts from the blossom.

These aren't bad shots, so keep at it.

Move in closer and crop tight!
