I am such a beginner. I'll just state that now! :D It may become horribly obvious in just a few words when I ask my question:

Can you use Cokin filters on Canon cameras?

There. I said it.

Thank you for any help!

Welcome to the forum!

Believe me, there have been way, way, WAY dumber questions, In fact, that question is not dumb at all, because yes, with the right adapter, Cokin filters can be used with any EOS camera.

Oh, thank you so much for making me NOT feel dumb. :D

I have a Digital Rebel with an 18-55 lens, so I will look into purchasing some Cokin filters...because Cokin has the fun sepia filter, and I LOVE sepia.

Thank you again,
~Katy

Buy the adapter(s) first. Sepia? You can do that in PS. You shooting B&W? I was just on an assignment where the majority of the photos will end up being B&W. First real serious B&W stuff I've shot since going digital.

Lovin' it!

Here are some fun actions for PhotoShop: http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm

I bought a whack of Cokin filters, which I really haven't used too much. You can get a lot of the effects using Photoshop, esp with some cool add-ons.

Hi Katy :D
Excellent website you have!

No,it's not a dumb question at all.
Digital cameras, like film cameras, don't mind shooting through filters, allthough some can fool the camera sometimes into giving the wrong readings but that's not a drama with digital.
If it doesn't work properly you just try again 8)

As the others say,you can do FAR more in photoshop type programs than you can with simple filters.
But that assumes you don't mind learning how to use PS ...and that you like working on a computer

Hi, I have about 25-30 Cokin filters. I have not touched them since I went digital because I can do most everything and more in Photoshop. And I only have Photoshop Elements.

Thanks, everybody! I did get PS with my camera (for free...which was awesome), so I will experiment with that.

And thanks for the compliments on the website, Ron! I have lots of fun doing it.

By the way, where could I buy an adapter to use the Cokin filters? I just want to make sure I get the right thing.

Have a great day!

Hello and welcome.

Since you shoot digital, I also suggest replacing those filters with photoshop. It imitates it perfectly and gives you some extra control as well.
www.epaperpress.com has a whol bunch of cool actions. (including about 4 sepia variations)

Good luck ;)

The only filters I have used on my digital is a polarizer and grads, Which were also mainly the ones I used with my film camera. apert from when I was shotting B+W then I used varies colour ones. Just got an infra-red one so will be trying that out this weekend if not sooner.
