I've got a set on flicker from a couple days ago, and on the main page of the set, it says its "34 photos 56 views". Counting the number's from each photo, the number goes to well over 100.

Does that mean 56 unique visitors have seen the set, and then the individual photo numbers are how many total views each has had? I'm confused why the numbers don't add up. I looked around flickr but couldn't find an explanation.

You are correct. I have a set that's been viewed about 1,000 times, but a photo within that set has over 24,000 views.

Most of the time, people visit pictures without going through the "set" window. That's why the set usually has fewer views than the pictures inside of it.

edit: To answer your original question, it measures unique views.

Wow, that is a popular photo!

Thanks for the explanation, that makes perfect sense.

A lot of times a high number of views can indicate that the photo has been blogged (and usually without your knowledge). ;)
