For those that own and use a S50, when you record a video clip, do you hear the motor (machinery) sound?

There is no sound on the background while recording and I can hear the camera operating sound when I view the clip.

This is annoying and not good. Is this normal for all Canon cameras or the S50 or something I should worry about?

i dont think you hear the motor. i have a s50 and there is no such problem.

they do, like any camera, have very very sensitive microphones, and the littlest tap from your finger on the body of the camera, can sound pretty loud in the video.

Yes, I am hearing the motor or a sound that is producing from the internal components of the camera.
I left the camera recorded inside my room with no sound at all. I checked the clip and the clip indeed has a background sound.

There might be a problem with my camera and trying to find out if other S50 users are having a similar issue on other boards atm.

I'm also an S50 user, but have not noticed any background sound that would be coming from the camera itself. Quite happy with the S50 performance to date. In fact somtimes I get the impression when I move the Mode Dial to Video and press the "record" button, it is so silent, I wonder if I'm getting a recording at all. It shows up later on my PC, in silence.

There is no machinery sound. Is probably noise amplified and distorted by the pretty low performance D/A converter and speaker duo in the camera and of course your maximum volume setting.

Once downloaded to computer sound is more cleaner.
