I took the gear outside yesterday and was taking some shots of the kid and the dogs. After PP today, it looks like the lens isn't focusing properly. Most of my shots were using AI servo. Anyone want to take a stab at it?

Thanks for you help.

What're you looking to have us take a stab at? It hardly seems worth sharpening a low-res crop when you've the high-res original. The composition and colour looks nice to me. I like the shot. I can see the foreground's focused, and it's unclear how out of focus the face is in this low-res version. Another discussion on these forums mentioned FocusMagic... it's a free trial download from www.focusmagic.com... it may be able to help this image more than a simple unsharpen mask. I haven't tried the software myself. Cheers, Tony

Thanks, Tony. I was asking if the focus looked off or not. I recently purchased a second hand 30D and was using it in AI servo mode but thought some of the shots were off with the focusing. That's all.

looks out of focus but hard to tell with that shot, have you tried the battery test? You line up batteries and focus on each indicidual one using your AF points.

No, I have not. Like I said in both posts; if I'm using AI Servo, I notice this issue. One shot focus, there's not an issue...that I've noticed yet;)

If I had to guess it would be because AI Servo will let you take the shot whether it's in focus or not, and you're taking the shot before the AF has a chance to catch up.

Also, as the subject moves, the AF could be switching its focus point to track a point that you don't want (the tractor instead of your son) because it's the closest object.

So, in other words, don't mess around with AI servo;)
