The first pic has great DOF and is a neat idea, unfortunately the light reflecting on the jars is really burned out and distracting.
The second pic is awsome.

Sometimes purposeful over/under exposure works to add life to an ordinary shot. If the first one wasn't overexposed some it would be dull. It works well here.

ps Nothing special in the second shot.

cheers for that... I was trying to capture the way the sun shone throw the glass making it glow. Guess it's slightly overdone!
Ah well, better luck next time eh?

first one is pretty cool, apart from overexpose slightly; second one is correctly exposed, but i would try frame it at different angle or maybe reposition a bit, just to give it a go see what difference it makes.
great potential though ... and i was in York two months ago, picking up my camera :)

if only i could get a different angle - there's a river in the way to the left and cliffs to the right!
what sort of recomposition did you envisiage - closer to it and looking up more directly? or more straight on??
