Going back to my book, it seems to be of the family Ricaniidae which are plant hoppers. Jeez, I really don't know anything about bugs do I? LOL!!

Thanks Mike!! I am really dense when it comes to them although I am a wizz at animals. The thing I am finding it that some do not fall into the category I assume it to be. For example, I was sure the ant I posted some time back was a wasp because it looks like it. Oh well, Live and learn as we say!! LOL!!
But whatever it is, this one was well camoflaged.

Looks like a Cicada to me, good camouflage. Surprised it wasn't singing (and making racket).

Thanks for commenting Dave. I had a good look at the pics in my book and the eyes tell me it is definitely the family Ricaniidae. He was dead quiet, that is why I was under the impression it was a moth.:)

i always think of moths as being flimsy powdery wings like butterflys,
not quite as "plastic" or "shiny" as these are, are there shiny moths with harded exoskeletons that i am un aware of? just curious.

All moths have soft furry wings John, this one too. It is just the scales on the wings glittering like that. The sun was just getting him in the right way.

Nice captures Joan. You did a great job finding it. You must have a great set of eyes to find all these "disguised" critters. You've got to move slow and look hard to so that.

Thanks for the nice comment Gary. Your eyes adjust to spotting a slight difference in colour or movement and so make it easy to pick up these things.

I think cicada's are really fascinating, especially the life cycle. I wonder if it was in the process of dying Joan, hence it being quiet and very still.

Hi,
This one is great, but is easier than the one in part 2.
I miss the part 3, I'll look at it.
