I understand the 20D will have the CR2 raw format. This is the same format as the MarkII correct? Does much software even exist for reading these files? I have looked at the software I currently use and only CS has it. ThumbsPlus, which I use almost exclusively to catalog with does not and the company indicates they are having problems getting information from Canon to make it work. Any thoughts. :?

If you're asking whether third-party companies will support the 20D, the answer is "absolutely yes". Any company that doesn't is sending a message to consumers that it's not in the game for the long haul.

The more pressing question is how quickly will they support it...and that's a fair question. But keep in mind that the companies that delay risk losing market share to the ones that move quicker. Adobe has already committed to updating its Adobe Camera Raw converter for Photoshop CS; they've promised at least one additional update this year and possibly two (according to Thomas Knoll, who I believe is responsible for ACR).

Well I just downloaded the latest version (3.92) of my old favourite "Irfanview" and the new set of Canon DLLs includes support for CR2 files. I cannot test this as I don't have a MarkII (or indeed 20D). Anyone want to lend me a MarkII so I can test it?

BreezeBrowser*, PSCS*, C1*, EOS Viewer Utility and DPP all work with the new Raw files.
*=latest version or for PSCS-latest ACR plug in.
