Just loved this bit of iron detail. Turned it 90 degrees for a more "energetic feel."

Please comment. :)

The curves are great, but the angle makes the shot. Very nice.

Hi
You have a wonderful eye for compostion and certainly
turning the picture into a vertical has improved it and
made it most attractive.

May I humbly make a suggestion ?

I would like to see the two thin straight strands of wire removed
center right. Also the bits of wire or something untidy
in the same area.

For me, they are distractions to a lovely composition.

Another small point that you may or may not agree with.
I always teach students not to have shapes touching the border of the image.
They tend mentally to create "tension points" and
distractions.

This applies to the top of a person's head, an elbow
ending on the side of an image, or feet being right on
the base.

Here the graceful curves of iron touch on the right and
also on the base.
You may not agree, but usually a little space between
the subject and the border of the image seems to give
it some "space" and does away with the "tension points."

Kind regards
eland

Eland,

I completely agree with the wire suggestion. I'll work on it this weekend. As for the "touching problem," there isn't much I can do. You see, the iron isn't simply just a spiral curve. It continues on in different directions and I didn't like the way that looked.

Here's another more comprehensive view of this wrought iron sign. http://www.vanert.net/gallery/album52/aba

You can see how if I had left room between the border and the curves, there would be visible straight pieces that would detract from the shot.

I appreciate the suggestion and you taking the time to comment though. :)

Hi again

Silly of me not to realise that the wrought iron would
continue beyond your image. Call me dumbo.

Still, with your permission I could copy your image
and put a space around it anyway, just for fun. :-))

I'm pleased that you agree about the wire.

Kind regards

CLIO

Very elegant & Spanish to me.

It made me wonder about a sort of "opposite". Like a variation on anti-gravity or anti-matter or season (winter-summer). Ok, just chatting! Suppose you had to shoot the opposite (not necessarily a “negative”). Would you be looking for a solid piece of metal that was light from behind ? Don’t answer that!

Back to your image.

Nice. As another sharp-eyed viewer said, its all in the angle. Anyway, I wonder what Eland will comes up with. He is a wizard at alterations.

PS: Thanks for the great history re your smog shot. I will not comment on your night lanterns as I can’t take the heat.
