Perhaps the worst lighted concert I have ever seen at Chumash but balanced out nicely by the slight "strangeness" of the group and their ability to put make the performance riveting ... never slowing down and always "posing."

Some nice images, not too inspiring lighting, nice collage, but man, they look old. Maybe use a soft filter next time

Nice shots as always. What happened to their beehives?

I have to say you made the very best of the lighting, it looks so hard to work in. I love the last head shot of the lead singer in black and white..Thanks for sharing

I'm starting to consider a side-business in Botox! And this year's schedule (that I can't reveal) ain't gonna' make it any better.

Not being a big fan I guess I didn't really notice ... try Wikipedia! :-)

Thanks. The headshot is a LightRoom Selenium preset with manual adjustments.

Now here is a bad that I would love to shoot some time. Good job, Dwight. I will echo some of the other comments about the B & W of Fred Schnieder...who definately hails from another planet. Normally he is dressed a bit more colorful, so I'm sorry that you didn't have one of his wonderful shirts to deal with.

Lighting doesn't seem so bad actually. I think the Kate Pierson shot used in the upper right hand corner of the collage might be a better one than # 2.

I'm also glad to hear from the grapevine that some new music is coming out soon from the 52's. I've been a fan since the CBGB days and ever since.

As an aside to your botox comment, I'm working on a set from a performance with Gary "U.S." Bonds and am finding out that the 300 IS sometimes is a little too sharp...lol.

Dwight, I see allot of the lights I have deal with every time I shoot locally. It is that fluorescent/neon blue and red that just ruins the pictures. i feel for ya. Other then that though I think you did a good job over coming it.

I think they are all in my gallery. I've started doing some non-color conversions as I surprised myself with a couple I did that I really liked ... sometimes they just look like they'd be interesting in B&W and LightRoom makes it easy to experiment ... in fact, with virtual copies I find myself generating variations on the same image. But he certainly seems to be in his own little world where he is impressed with himself!

I will be shooting Gary U.S. Bonds at a VIP only event on Saturday ... but I'm used to throwing out 95% of the 300mm shots on some performers for that reason ... Diana Ross I only kept two and only published darkened version of one. On others the 300mm shots are fantastic!

I agree on the wonderful conversion tools in LR. I tend not to use the presets and have gotten more than a few winners out of marginal color shots. My first Springsteen portrait was one of them.

Gary will give a great show to your VIP event on Saturday. He is such a great guy and only gets greater with an ample supply of tequila...you might want to let your venue management know. ;) Hopefully I will get my set up soon. His backing vocalists, wife and daughter, are worthy subjects as well. They all have so much fun performing.

No alcohol except in the restaurant/bar at the casino, sigh ... I often could use a drink myself ... the bottled water is free! :-)

Great Stuff as usual Dwight, especially the collage. I attend (and sometimes shoot) classic rock acts all year round. Sometimes when I get home and start to go through the shots I am shocked at the act's aged looks! You commented earlier in the year on my Steve Miller shots....he looked old

I like Rene's suggestion....soft filters are a must for the aging legends! The lights they use don't help them any either.

yeah, i'd say the lighting was tougher/more contrasty than the usual i've seen from Chumash. you did a nice job w/ 6 and 7, and the extra b/w one you posted.

Thanks, Narlus! Just got back from shooting the Oak Ridge Boys ... much better lighting, shot all night, even from the wings (nothing worthwhile from there) and expect I have a couple of nice ones.

Dwight...again you made the best of the situation...that lighting does look unusually horrid for the Casino...

but you still captured the moments...when you're ready to retire let me know...I'd love to fill in...I'll even give up my comfy place in freezing cold Canada...
