I was playing with my ETTL system. I used a 420EX, a 430EX and an STE2. - with diffusers from China.
Results...
The 420EX is MUCH easier to set up than the 430EX due to the lack of an LCD - everything's set with switches and buttons. I much prefer my 420EX over my 430EX in this respect.
The STE-2 is easy to set up and to use.
Remembering to set one flash to A and the other to B is something I missed initially. Once that was done I had great fun shooting with my little flash setup in my front room using my XT. I didn't bother with brolleys or stands - I just stood the flashes on furniture and took test photos.
I didn't notice a great difference between the ratios but that's possibly because I was using a diffuser on each flash. The photos where I didn't make setup errors look really great on the LCD. I'll have to process them and see what they look like then.
