Ok, I'm thinking of going L bracket all the way with all my cameras (G9, XTI, 40D). Really right stuff perhaps....anyway with a custom grip on my G9, I'm finding out that the leather case (by canon, I think..) that conforms to the shape of the camera (sorry I don't know the model number), actually works with the CR.

I already have two small case/bag (Lowepro Apex 60 and ThinkTank "All other things") for it, I like the idea of the custom case but I'm sure you can't have an L bracket and this together. That would look...uhhhhhGLY.

Then again, if I had to ask the question of do I really need an L bracket on my g9, perhaps not (for my dSLR's, of course).

I want to know everyone's thoughts on this.

If you have an easily transported tripod with an Arca-Swiss compatible fixing, then the L bracket is a nice addition. It does not work with Canon's SC-DC55A fitted case. I have both, of course :) so I choose what case I need for what I intend to shoot with on a given day. Some days, the L bracket stays on, other days, the fitted case stays on. Each change brings a reintroduction of the benefits of each option.

I finally installed the custom grip (had it for a while) and find that the camera makes it into the fitted case okay. I didn't think it would. The leather gradually gives way to accommodate the grip. Who knew?

I am in the process of converting my ballheads to fit the quick release L bracket clamps. I have a tripod and monopod (488/486 RC2). I don't really need an L bracket for my G9 and if I was to carry a tripod, it would because I'm carrying my dSLRS. Of course when I have those, I usually have my G9. When I have my G9 alone, I don't usually think about bringing my tripod. Perhaps the monopod and I do have a small table top tripod I would sometimes take but the G9 was never meant to do replace my dSLRS.

Regarding the case, I heard somewhere that it does fit it. So the case is back on the table for me to purchase.

I keep the mini tripod around so that I can get low light shots of non-moving subjects and landscape / architectural with low ISO. I like the balance that the L bracket affords along with the capability to change camera orientations without having to reframe the subject.
