im looking into getting a nice polarizer / warming filter.

looking for one to maybe use on the 70-200 but i was wondering if a person could explain the number/letter notations for the filters as my google ability is off tonight.

looking on bh and just checking out the B+W theres:

skylight kr1.5
81A
81B
KR3

and then regular circular polizers as well.

i do a lot of shots around downtown chicago lately. whether they are candids, or of friends once in a blue moon or of the architecture.

any help or links would be greatly appreciated as they just use stock photos to show with/without filter

Are you looking for a combination polarizer and warming filter? An 81A warming filter has a very slight pink-ish tint to remove some of the blue cast in a picture. This provides a slightly warmer appearance. The 81B is about twice as dark as the 81A. The skylight filter has a barely detectable pink tint. The KR3 filter is equivalent to an 81C -- darker pink than 81B.

If you need a polarizing filter, then for digital photography a circular polarizer is necessary -- I have seen normal polarizers in combination with warming filters, but not circular polarizers with warming filters -- that does not mean that they do not exist -- it just means that I have not seen them. They are expensive -- just get the circular polarizer and forget the warming filter.

thanks ... i figured they were different grades and at the time my search ability was squat.

thanks for the reply ... i was looking on BH and they had polarizer warming filters and just polarizers ... or atleast B+W listed it as an 81A/B warming polarizer filter
