The moment you all have been waiting for...
Hi folks
According to this Northlight Images rumours page (http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/cameras/Canon_5d2_3d_7d.html) the "next new Canon product will be announced on January 24. 2008, a week before PMA."
So will it be the '450D', the '5D MkII', both or neither? http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif hope the 450D does not come out because i just got my XTI last month, i would feel like crap if a new one came out and i just got my new one thinking this would be around for a while before a new comes out...

First, a new model's release doesn't do crap to the old one. Your 400D will still take pictures just as well as it did the day before the new model was released. If you get mad every time they release a new model, you're going to hate photography. Instead, ask yourself if your current body does what you need it to. If it does, then you're fine no matter what Canon releases.
Secondly, the 400D is really new, so I doubt they will be replacing it. They just finished fixing the 1d III, the 1Ds III is just now starting to be sold, and the 40D is newer than the 400D. So, really the only thing they would reasonably release is the 5D mk II. It's pretty old by Canon's new-model standards.

Dude, you focus on gear way too much. Every thread of yours I've seen around here has been around gear insecurity. Why can't you just enjoy the XTi and go out to shoot? It's an excellent camera. Infact, I'm considering purchasing another soon just because the prices are so good right now.
To answer the question, it's probably both the 5D replacement and the 450D. But the point is SO? A 5D II (or whatever it's going to be called) isn't automatically gonna make the 5D redundant, and a 450D isn't gonna make the 400D redundant. Heaven knows why you're losing sleep over it.

I'd say it's the 'newbie measurbator syndrome' (NMS).
Seriously dude, just go out and enjoy your camera. I've never been dissappointed with my 400D, and I've owned two copies already. Planning a third.. or perhaps a 450D if that turns out to be good.
The end result are your photos and plenty of people have already told you that the XTi is an excellent camera. Would you rather be losing sleep over silly gear issues or spending that time improving your photography?

Like I and many others have already reiterated several times, aim for SEVERAL lenses. Together they will give you much more potential than a single lens which does everything.
If you really want to save money, I'd even recommend the new kit set: 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS.
Or just start off with a Tamron 17-50. It's got a constant f/2.8 aperture. It's a fast lens and the image quality is excellent. Stop dwelling on taking shortcuts and just getting a lens which does everything! Such a lens doesn't exist.

Not to mention no way in hell 450D will come out with a $479 price tag (which is what Dell is selling the 400D for) until months later.

Of all the cameras to be announced the 5dII seems most likely simply based off what's oldest in the lineup.. we'll see on the 24th though ;)

All Canon bodies, for me, will wait until after reports of bug-free operation come in.
Selling 2x30D + EF-S glass to get a 5D FF or Ds II; no reason to get the latest, as I'll never know the difference.
BTW, most people don't care what you post; just post.

Hi there,
I have been watching this forum for about 2 months. I am in the market to purchase 2 x 5D and decided to wait until January before making the purchase.
Not familiar with the Canon product roll out cycle, normally how long after the announcement of a new model is it available for purchase?
Thanks

I got some information, this is only what i can tell you...
Canon will be possibly releasing a new SLR camera in Spring 2008 body will cost 1400-1800, this SLR camera is a work in progress, and may happen or may not.
when taking pictures you can now look at the LCD, LCD will be 3".
Collin85
16th of December 2007 (Sun), 03:15
That's pretty vague. 1400-1800? That's not a 450D and it sounds way too cheap to be the 5D successor, unless Canon is about to unleash a new 'budget' FF series - and that wouldn't be anywhere near 1400.. more like 2000+.
when taking pictures you can now look at the LCD, LCD will be 3".
So it will have Live View on a 3" screen? What a revelation there.

Been skimming thru this thread, and like many, am anticipating what the new 5D will offer. But I think we all have one thing in common: FULL FRAME. Any new features will not impress me, just the fact from going from 1.6x to FF. If the new "5D" is affordable, I'll consider, otherwise, the current 5D's will be more affordable.
If Canon announces a 45Mp, 12" live screen, auto dust removal, 82000 ISO, 123fps, AND a 1.8 crop factor, I'll keep my 30D and buy the current 5D.
Anyway, my 2c, and Merry Christmas.

True. Unless you put more effort into it, you can't blame us either. 1400-1800? That doesn't fit into the existing Canon lines, taking into account the 40D had just been released.
3" Live View? That's not a distinction.
So yeah, you can't lie good.. and it's probably not best to try anymore since you've already destroyed your credibility with this thread. *pats*
That cybernetic implant wouldn't work as it would be subject to our own interpretation of the images, much like "truth" is subject to interpretation.
#1: Wrong interpretation. ;) Perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly enough - by 'memories', I mean what we see through our eyes. So instead of having to explicitly use an external device (a camera) to capture the shot, the scene through our eyes is directly recorded to the implant. THAT isn't subjective.. unless you have eyesight issues.
#2: Suppose we follow your interpretation. How would that make it not work? All is means is that what's recorded down is subjective to our own interpretations.. but the fact of the matter is it's still getting recorded down. Some may even argue this quirk is advantageous!

Perhaps, but it sometimes rains on a Wedding. Or Junior's football tournament game. And the 5D is perfectly capable of shooting both without any trouble.

I am certain i am not the average use case but I think weather sealing could be helpful for non-sport and non-wedding shooters also. I routinely shoot in the rain or otherwise wet conditions when around NYC, this also happens for sure in nature. I actually fully submerged my 20D by accident once, it took 3 days, but it dried out and started to work again. Besides water, i have been to some extremely dusty environments in urban areas also.

Also, it's an excellent under-water camera and when you pop it in and out of the UW housing there can be water dripping onto the camera. A simple weather sealing would help quite a bit with that (I'm especially thinking of the memory card slot).

Yep.
Well, I'm an optimist, so I'm going to pretend this one's going to come off and there'll be a new 5D in 10 days time. Could. Not. Be. More. Excited. Seriously. Someone. Pinch. Me.
I'm not one to blame my tools and have got good use out of my 350D, but the crop factor just really annoys me now, really screws with my composition. I also want to buy a wide angle so I'll probably be looking for a deal on a 5D and 17-40mm, although I may still go Sigma. I unexpectedly came into some money recently so I may well be one of the earliest adopters if they do come out. And then a new Crumpler, and an ND Grad, the boys at Jacobs on New Oxford Street are going to love me.

MLphoto,
I spoke with the Canon rep yesterday and confirmed either the 23rd or 24th for the announcement.
So we shall see, eh?

Anyone with a 17-55/2.8 IS and a 70-300 IS. :)
Actually, a 17-200 IS would be a very useful lens. I used to skewer the "superzooms" that had a lot of range. They tend to have barrel distortion at the wide end, and go soft at the long end compared to zooms with a less ambitious range. But they are very versatile, and the latest models from Sigma and (I hear) Nikon are fairly nice.

Hey you never know, the quality of this 17-200 lens could be really good, IF it comes out...

Since Canon only just released the 18-55 IS and 55-200IS i doubt we will see a 17/18-200
