That time is approaching fast and my long suffering family is still in a quandry as to what is that I'd like to receive as my Winter Solstice present. (BTW, we are pagans).
I have several options:
(1) EF 500 f/4 IS.......Am I willing to give that lens a second chance now that I feel almost strong enough to get out and use it ?
(2) EF 200 f/1.8......in light of the new 200 f/2.0, do I really need a backup copy ?
(3) 14L MkII.......the lens holds promise.
So, either get (1), or get (2) and (3).....that's my dilemma.

the 200mm will be a liability ... you know that, the 14mm will be a minor thrill and then forgotten, the 500mm is made for you and will fit in your shopping trolley for walkaround ;-) But my only question is will you be able to leap naked over the bonfire as part of your traditional Pagan celebration ritual while holding that 500mm? Could be the clincher :-) How about a pair of socks and some Y-Fronts?

*The 200 f/1.8 is a sort of a liability already, yet an exquisite lens which simply begs to me duplicated.
*You are probably right about the 14L.....too much of an extreme WA, seldom to be used effectively.
* I can be wheeled over the bonfire buck naked while brandishing the 500 triumphantly, akin to an Asterix incarnate.

*snigger*
Mental images of the 500 f/4 mounted, Gatling Gun style, on the shopping trolley...

How about, for now, just getting a palette of suet so you can fatten up on it and then hibernate through the winter. That way, you can really sleep on it for a while and then confront your lens dilemma come Spring with a clear and rested mind. That's what I'd do in your shoes. ;) :D

When I was your age, or Connie's for that matter, I could have twirled that kinda lens with one arm. Right now I seem to be reduced to handholding of the 300 f/2.8 kinda lenses. Granted, many a young buck, like MD Adonis boy, would find even those too havy for handholding. Mind you, he is the kind who works out in his gymnasium regularly.
Suet ? Toronto is not that far north, PackIce.
