Mark (Mdjak) and I have decided to take in a meet before the year is over, and tomorrow is the only available day. We will be meeting at the Canal Street area (possibly Center and Canal) tomorrow noonish and spend the whole afternoon wandering about street shooting and ducking into cafes for coffee and congee or pho.

This is subject to weather conditions tomorrow. It is supposed to snow/sleet at the pre-dawn hours followed by heavy rain during the morning. By noon it may taper off but strong winds are expected. It is going to be a miserably cold day, but this makes for excellent photography. If the conditions are really nasty though, we may call it off.

This is open to all, stay tuned tomorrow morning when we firm up our plans, depending on said conditions and whether Mark has wrapped up his morning Christmas tree hunting chore.

Canal Street.... I'd be there in a minute if it wasn't 4000kms away.

My next time in NYC, I hope to meet up for one of these.

Ooooooh!

I'm home on LI now, unfortunately I didn't get home till about 9:30pm though, so I missed the fun today (yesterday now). I'd definitely be up for some fun in NYC though. There's a 9am train that leaves Smithtown that gets into Penn around 11am, I'll make sure to wake up early and check here to know if I should be on that train or not!

:D

Oh man another walk so soon? I may be up for it, but it is snowing at the moment and the lighting looks pretty harsh.

It is freezing, slippery, and icy outside my window right now, and I hope it lets up later this noon. Still waiting for Mark to see if we'll push through. The dude is out looking for a Christmas tree, methinks.

Christmas tree shopping? Think about how many trees you're killing every year. I just set up my artificial fiber optic 3 feet tree yesterday. Anyways, let me know if there is any development.

I woke up earlier, saw it was nasty out, and went back to sleep. I think I'll not be going into NYC today...

I'm free the entire week, but I'm guessing most of you aren't college students and will be working?

I thought about it. Comes to the grand total of one. ;)

ooo, I think there are tree farms where they grow them for this purpose. That said, I do have an artificial tree that I use year after year - which I still have to set up. I balk though at cutting down 200 year old trees just for decoration, such as the one at Rockfeller Center. That just doen't seem right to me.

Hey where are you at here at NYC?

ooo

woloi I might be up for some photo shooting sometime next week.

@pio - I live in Brooklyn near the Brooklyn Chinatown.

Woloi, I am severely tempted to crawl back in bed too! Slippery and icy outside, and now there's freezing rain coming down. I may have some free time next week.

Don, lol! To cut down more than 1 tree per year is excessive indeed.

ooo, at Sunset Park area? Cool, it has been a while since I went there. Perhaps we can take photos there sometime.

I'm in northern NJ right next to the GW bridge and as tempting as this is the weather is just too disgusting!

Yep, I'm right at the border of sunset / bayridge area. Sure thing. The NYC group seems to be getting lively now.

Pio and I have exchanged emails this morning. After plowing my and my neighbor's driveways and shoveling, my toes are frozen. We've put it off for now, but will repost when we are getting together. Pio is the consummate urban landscape photographer and I can't wait to go shooting with him.

As to cutting down christmas trees, fact is, I'm Jewish. The tree is for my wife who isn't. I've tried to convince her to get an artificial tree for years. She won't hear of it, and she's the boss, not me. :(

Consummate? What am I, soup? ;)

Anyway I am sort of glad it's postponed, it is treacherous and icy out there, especially for you Mark if you have to drive into Manhattan on slippery roads, with frozen toes to boot. I am not sure I have time next weekend or after that as we may be heading down to Maryland but we'll see.

I may be free sometime this week though, during the weekdays.

Zane, no worries, thanks for the post. It would be wrong for me to judge you based on one post, as it is to judge someone solely on their Christmas tree views. Well at least we learned a bit about socio-economic-political ramifications of Christmas ornaments :) We're cool man, if you ever find your way here in NYC we can schedule a meet.

Back to the topic at hand, woloi, ooo which day are you free? I'll see if I can find a time window available in my sched, mornings around 8:30 to 12 look good to me.

I understand how you guys feel but this is just not the place for it.

Don't slip on the ice Pio. I have lived briefly in such a climate and came to the realization that the pretty white stuff on Christmas cards is not nearly so wonderful when you have to shovel it off of the sidewalk.

I don't start working again till after new years. So I got two weeks free any time is good with me.

Ahoy Skip, thanks for the advice. I did one better, I didn't go out at all. Oh I just ventured outside to get something from my car and I nearly slipped on the sidewalk. I just spent the day online shopping for Christmas presents. :D

ooo, we'll think something out this week I hope.

Oh I missed your post Crissa. So you're at Bergen County? I sometimes go to Paramus, get stuff at Campmor.

For the record, 1 day notice is not nearly enough for these kinds of events. I understand how this one came up, but if there is anyway to at least give 203 days notice you will have a lot better response. No way I could of made this one anyway due to Christmas parties and stuff, just saying is all =)

ooo

203 days notice now thats a lot of time. j/k I know what you mean.

I spent the day putting up 30-40 ebay auctions. I took pictures of junk I had around my house and just took pictures of it. Right now I want to make a lightbox =(

I thought you understood how this came up? ;) Mark and I have been thinking about meeting up before the year is over, we suddenly found a common time window and made an appointment to do so. We decided that since we were going to meet anyway, we might as well open it to others who might want to attend. If it weren't for the nasty weather (I certainly don't want Mark to drive to Manhattan in such conditions) this meet could have materialized.

Perhaps in the future we should just keep it to ourselves if it were only 1 to 202 days notice

you drive right past me then Pio, I'm in Fort Lee. I venture into campmoor myself sometimes, tho I find them pricey on some items.

Ah ok, I know where that is. Do you have Blue Laws in your area too? Regarding Campmor, yes their prices are a bit on the high side but you can get some gems at their web sales. I buy winter stuff from them during the summer and vice versa. :)

I'm free pretty much all week. I'm home from school for break, and apart from getting a haircut (probably Friday) and attempting to get the dog groomed (who knows when that'd be), I'd be up for something. Granted, this isn't 203 days notice, but I think it would suffice...

Oh, and feel free to call me Ian, it's my name, and it's less letters than woloi.

I'd be up for a meet if the weather and timing permits. I'm in LI, but venture into the city pretty often. I'm also going to be in Jersey this weekend at the Brunswick Lanes up in Belleville if anyone's a bowler. I've got a coupon for $1.49 games!

woloi
19th of December 2007 (Wed), 20:33
Well...with impeccable timing, I'm maybe free tomorrow, but I'm not sure of the weather tomorrow, and it's kind of really short notice and the middle of the week. If anyone does want to meet up tomorrow though, send me an email (ian@woloschin.com) by like, midnight or so, and I'd be happy to meet up.

If you guys are doing something, what time and where are you planning to meet? I might be busy in the morning tomorrow but I might have time later on. I got time next week to. I'm actually up for a walk in central park sometime next week if anyones interested.

I'm down, I finish college for this semister, Let me know what day because I work. I'm off on saturdays. I want to meet some of the people on this forum, so I can learn a couple of things from someone else.

This sounds like a great day ... shame it was cancelled. Couldn't Jackie drive you around in his Bentley with the heating on :-)

Perhaps in the future we should just keep it to ourselves if it were only 1 to 202 days notice

Exactly ... ya can't please all the people all the time. Personally, I would rather something very short notice. If I book something like this way ahead then you can be sure some work issue or meeting will arise and I have to preprioritise if it is week day. A last minute 'social' thing I can usually handle.

Aye, Dave, you can't really satisfy all. Though I didn't quite relish being lectured about how to hold a meet, I would like to think it was done in good faith though.

About the Bentley, I think Marky Mark stored it for the coming winter, so I won't be able to see it until spring. Hey Mark, did you ever get that Christmas tree?

To all, I won't have any time this week, I will be leaving for Maryland for the holidays. Actually I should have left last night, but I have been battling the flu for a couple of days now. :( I will be back maybe Sunday, if I do I may be available Monday. Or we can do it weekend after New Year's Day.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays all!

This is the one Saturday I can't go because a guy from work wants me to take some pictures of him and his family. Sorry man. Just PM me on day you want to meet up, and if am not working or doing something else, I will go.
