I have a question. I traded for a Metz 54 MZ-4 flash this week. If I decided to use it I will need to buy the canon module. Has anyone used this flash and if so what do you think of it. Is it worth spending the $90 for the module.

Thanks in advance.

the metz 54 is one the best flashes today available in AUTO thyristor . The SCA for your 30D will be the 3102 m3 (allowing you to use it in AUTO or ETTLII and also in AV and TV on both).

If you can't find the m3 version then get any 3102 and ask bogen to upgrade it.

when in ETTL don't use the omnibounce because it will cover the sensor (which is in the head)

I had a 54-MZ3 and often I had to reset it. Other than that it will be a great flash.
