Yup, Jessops have it up for sale at £1279.90 (Body only). They are rarely the cheapest of course so you will probably get a better deal than that.

The 10D in the UK was 12 months standard warranty. I can't imagine the 20D being any different.

after reading this I thought I would just e-mail Canon and ask them why its so more expesive here.
But.....
Canon uk provide NO e-mail contact addresses at all. The only way to contact them via email and ask a question is to register with them, I didn't really want to but i thought, okay.
However after filling in your name, address, email etc at the bottom of the form is a checkbox with the text:
I agree to receiving marketing information from Canon as set out in the Privacy Policy.
I thought 'I wont check that as i dont want junk mail and e-mail'. But of course you have to agree with it to enable the registration to proccess.
I think this is discusting - they are actually trying to make it impossible to contact them :evil:

Does anyone here have a contact e-mail address for canon uk?
I would really like to e-mail them and ask why we have to pay almost double US prices for the same hardware.
I would also like to ask them about their compulsery spam agreement when registering on their site.
Maybe trading standards would be interested too :twisted:

cheers cadwell.
this is what ive written to them, ill let you know if i get a reply;
Dear Canon,
I was given this address by someone on the internet.
I have a couple of questions to ask Canon and would appreciate these being answered by the relevant people.
1. Could you inform me why Canon equipment is more expensive in The UK than in The USA? This price different isn't a small amount, sometimes it reaches double the price for an identical item.
Example:
Your upcoming DSLR the 20D is priced at around $1499.95 in The USA and yet it is priced at £1279.90 in The UK through suppliers such as Jessops ($2,290.25 at current exchange rate).
These price differences also continue throughout your range of lenses, below are some random items;
EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus. UK: £79.90 ($142.97) US: $74.95
EF 17-40mm f/4L USM. UK: £579.90 ($1,037.55) US: $689.95
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS UK: £1449.90 ($2,594.16) US: $1,649.95
These price difference cannot really be justified can they? or is this an issue to bring to the attention of Trading Standards?
The prices quoted are average selling prices based from the following shops;
UK: www.jessops.com
USA: www.bhphotovideo.com
Exchange rates done on 10 September 2004
2. I wanted to send this e-mail to Canon and visited your website for a contact e-mail address.
Canon does not list ANY contact e-mail addresses for The UK.
The only method I found was to register at the website to enable me to ask a question. Reluctantly I filled in the online form. However upon completion I read the following statement at the bottom of the page located next to a checkbox:
I agree to receiving marketing information from Canon as set out in the Privacy Policy.
I don't want to receive any marketing mailings or e-mails from Canon or its friends, but I discovered that you have to agree to this to enable the registration to complete. Is this procedure of forcing people to receive "junk", "spam" etc now illegal under recent European anti-spam legislation?
Why do you make it so difficult for people to contact you?
3. With the above in mind, why is it that Canon UK treat their customers in such a manner?
I personally have spent several thousand pounds on your products in the past twelve months alone, and I don't expect this kind of service from a company with such a high profile.
I look forward to your answers,
regards

yes, below is my mail to trading standards;
Hi
I was trying to send the e-mail below to Canon UK, but it has bounced back.
The e-mail is concerning the pricing structure of Canon's products in The UK, the lack of contact information on their website and the issue of being forced to agree to receive mailings before you can register on their site to ask them a question.
The mail below should be pretty clear about the issues I wish to raise with them.
regards
-------e-mail as above---------

From now on I'll call you The Digital Indiana Jones. Go get them man, we are behind you.
I remember years ago there was a campaign about the price difference of cars in the UK vs. the rest of Europe. From what I've read, it seems that campaign worked. So maybe you can start something similar. Why don't raise the issue to your elected representative.
