I am very new to SLR photography and am trying to learn everything I can. I recently took a trip to Europe and brought my XT with me - here's a handheld shot I took of the Tower Bridge (sorry, I know this is overdone) out on the River Thames. I love the colors in it but since I'm learning I'd love C & C. No post processing done other than a bit of straightening.

Note: edited to include EXIF info - whoops!

Very good shot, properly exposed, nice tonal range and moodiness. Not much advice re improving it: some foreground object might have helped, if anything handy was around or happened to float past, but it's solid as is.... Cheers, Tony.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. One other thing I thought of was that it's all too "in the middle" and should have been moved over. It's also not that sharp considering it was handheld. Just stuff to work towards!

There are several separate aspects of the image that create the illusion that the tower is leaning slightly to the left.

The question of whether the image is actually tilted or not is moot. If the majority of viewers see it as not vertical, then you have a problem. In situations like this, it's worth it to shoot a few extra shots or to rotate it a bit in software just to see if it improves.

Not a big deal, in any case. The lighting, perspective and composition are all rather interesting. I like the mood established by the lighting best of all.

The tower looks a little OOF... myabe it's just me. That's all I got besides what's already been said...

Nice image. I love the colors.

Which lens did you use with your XTi?

Thanks everyone! I used a 28-135 lens on this photo. I know the tower is a little bit out of focus and maybe appears a bit crooked so those are things that I will work on going forward. I'm happy with the mood the photo captured and I've now bought a nice Manfrotto tripod so I just have to get used to using it!

I appreciate the feedback!
