 Ok. I've been scanning this forum as well as others for days trying to get up to speed on buying a G9. Looks of good information, thanks to everyone for your passion! I'm a very a casual shooter retiring my Canon AE-1,Olympus iS1 and a digi P&S my wife dropped in the sand. Most of my questions have been covered on here. I have been trying to scope out the best package I might find as well as a reputable dealer and not waste money on unneeded items bundled. Also, I want a wide angle and a tele-photo to follow later. Can anyone list a few that are sufficient for casual shooters with a G9? Do I or should I buy Canon brand?
Sorry for the new thread. I'm new at forums too.

Welcome to the forum, fellow AE1 user.

First off, you'll need an adapter to mount filters or converter lenses. I use and prefer the Lensmate because it is precision-made of durable aluminum, versus the plastic Canon version. I use it together with a polarizing filter.

You may want to take a look at the Lensmate website for a look at the wide and telephoto converters available for the G9, as well as their comparison photos using the Raynox and Canon brands. The Raynox are not only cheaper, but seem to match and even outperform the Canon converters in some instances.

I've found Lensmate to be a very reliable merchant. Other on-line merchants that many of us favor are B&H, Adorama and Amazon. Good luck.

Thanks for the updates guys! I was aware of the adaptor needed and do intend on getting a set of filters. I was unaward of the Canon being plastic. I would not have imagined. I was going to just purchase from B & H and not have to sweat a reputable dealer, but they are out of stock on the G9. I've about decided to get the darn camera from somewhere and just start on the lenses/accessories after Christmas.
