I'm always checking out the photo/video sales section of craigslist for good prices on gear locally.. found this: http://detroit.craigslist.org/pho/511367769.html

Seems like the kinda thing you could get yourself sued over. I'll say this for sure, I'd be steaming mad if I found this guy selling stock that I owned copyright for.

In case he deletes the post:

GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE. I was in the Graphic Design & Video Editing business for over 15 years. My company's have collected over $100,000 in stock video footage and stock photos over the years. I am going into another professional and no longer need them and am selling the external 250 GB External hardrive and the files on it. You can download the complete contents of the drive in word format here: http://www.budgetdsigns.com/HD.rtf

Here are a few of the stock footage types: Artbeats, Busy Box, Corbis, Digital Juice, Digital Vision, Eyewire, Getty, ulead, Photo Disc, shutterstock, sooooo many more. This is a HUGE collection taking up the full 250 GB's

Here is a quick list of the table of content of the hard drive:

Stock Photo Images:
119 GB of royalty free Photos, Images, and Artwork!
655 Folders
45,856 Files

Stock Video Footage:
133 GB of royalty free video loops and animations
410 Folders
4,122 Files

Stock Audio:
7.25 GB of royalty free audio loops and production sounds
163 Folders
4,085 Files

Vector Artwork:
6.36 GB of artwork with
907 Folders
19,253 Files

Templates & Helper Files
13.4 GB worth of files
11,427 Folders
132,196 Files

This is like GOLD to videographers and Graphic Artist!

Also have Digital Juice Toolkit and Back Traxx's for sale too. Some of the DVD's have never even been open. Theis stuff should sell very fast.

Not sure how istock etc type work would be treated. Technically it is an asset of the videographer;s company as it is not right's managed.

Highly questionable legality -- I'm sure that each of the original stock companies have specific agreements that would prohibit such resales.

Beyond that, I have a question about the math:

250GB drive
-119 GB photos
-133 GB videos
-7.25 GB audio
-6.36 GB art
-13.4 GB templates
= -29 GB

Picked one site at random. From Shutterstock:

The following is prohibited:

Use Shutterstock Images in a manner that competes with Shutterstock's business. This includes, by way of illustration, not by way of limitation, displaying images in any format (including thumbnails) for download on a website or otherwise offering Shutterstock Images for sale, except as specifically provided in the applicable Terms of Service

Stockpile, download, or otherwise store Images not used within twelve (12) months of the expiration of your account for the Enhanced License and six (6) months under Standard License

And, since I was already at it, again from Shutterstock, with my emphasis:

Non-transferable" as used herein means that except as specifically provided in these TOS, you may not sell, rent, load, give, sublicense, or otherwise transfer to anyone, the Image or the right to use the Image. You may however, transfer Images to a third party for the sole purpose of causing such third party to produce and/or manufacture your goods incorporating Images subject to the terms and conditions herein. In addition, the work you produce with the Image must be used for yourself, your direct employer, client, or customer, who must be the end user of your work. You agree to take all commercially responsible steps to prevent third parties from duplicating any Image. If you become aware of any unauthorized duplication of any Shutterstock Image(s) please notify us via email at complaints@shutterstock.com.

The difference is that when you buy a CD of stock images (many of these exist) it isn't as clear. The same goes for the effects and sound/video loop library dvds you can purchase.

I randomly picked six of the names listed in the seller's ad -- each one very clearly states that any of their licenses are non-transferrable, and prohibits resale. All told, it took me about 60 seconds to find the information for all six of the randomly selected sites.

That's fantastic, but I'm telling you this isn't always the case.

It might be the exception, but I'm highly skeptical that this guy bought (or could have afforded to buy) that type of license for every single piece of stock he's got up for sale.

Many of the stock companies will allow you to sell their stock as long as it is IN some type of video/photo presentation, not stand alone.

"The Data may be used, altered, or incorporated according to the guidelines described herein into any work (including broadcast, commercial, industrial, educational, and personal) that is created by YOU provided that work is not then sold or distributed as either a single background or effect or as part of any background/effects library, collection, set, or product.

You may not sell, sub-license, loan, give, or transfer any part of the ******** or a copy thereof (except in accordance with the permitted use in a work created by you), to another person or company unless that person or company is also a licensee of this product."
