Right now I use Microsoft PictureIt 99 for my photo editing and such. It's great. But I was thinking about Photoshop.

The new Photoshop is just too expensive for me. I was thinking about getting a sealed version of 6 or 7 on eBay.

How are these versions?

Excellent. You can't go wrong.

That's the best route to go. I would look at the version that costs the least to get, aka the oldest, that still provides and upgrade path to CS if you think you might want that version in the future. That's the path I took to CS and it saved me about $125.

That's a great idea. As long as you can register it, you can upgrade to CS later. Here's a discussion of the differences between PS 6 & 7.

To me, the healing brush is worth whatever the difference is. Also, even though Adobe no longer offers it directly, you can probably find a copoy of the Raw Converter plugin which will give you RAW capabilities for some (not all) Canon cameras. That works only in PS 7.1. Of course it's included in PSCS (8.0).

Can't use CS. I use (and like) Win98se.

paintshop pro 9 is fantastic. not sure it will work on win98se, though. find it at www.jasc.com. I think it is $140 (my upgrade from v7 was $45).

Got a preowned version of PS7 on eBay. Works great! Bidding on a couple of books for it now.

I just did a search for Photoshop CS and found it for $117.00 at dakussoftware.com. Just thought folks would like to know. :D

I have the "preowned" PS7. Seems to work ok. I think I may get PS Elements 2 for birthday soon. I like the way Elements works. But with redeye I am very lazy, so I will use PictureIt for that particular fix I suppose.

PSE 3.0 has been announced and will be available later this year. Check it out at Adobe's website.

Website did not work. Is that a licensed, full version?

That must be an illegal version or there is something else fishy about it. Think about it: a piece of software that costs $600 everywhere, costs only $117 there. That can't be right.

Do you already know that Adobe recently announced Photoshop Elements 3.0 (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/main.html)? Looks really nice, supports RAW and 16-bit editing like the full PS CS.
