This was my first time shooting hockey in a LONG time, and my first real use of the new 70-200/2.8 IS lens. All but the last picture were taken in an NHL quality arena, but not all the lights were on. It's usually about 4x brighter for the home teams games.

Most were shot at 1/400s, ISO1600 (except for the first bench shot here which was about 1/80s or so)

This was in a small rink with light levels about 1/2 as bright as those above.

Nice and bright. I like the third one, you got the trifecta - face - puck - net !

Where was this? The logo on the yellow jerseys is ASHL - Adult Safe Hockey League ...no? That's a Canlan operation around here.

This was just a bunch of guys who rent the arena once a year.
Erik, I was using the 1KMK2N.

dris, nice shots. #3 is really really good.

does ASHL stand for AS*H*L* ??? that would be a hoot of a name for a hockey league. (note: my rec-league team recently voted down changing our names to the "Ice Holes" in favor of "Rats")

I will have to ask what ASHL stands for. I love the name Ice Holes!

Did you post process any of your shots?
What arena did you take the 4th picture? It still looks brighter than the dungeons where I've been shooting in the 'peg/

drisley said this is the new AHL arena... they are generally lit much better than smaller/older public rinks.

I always post process all my shots to some degree kwk.
The 4th was taken at the allard. It's quite dark, like about 1/200s at F2.8, iso1600 dark. heh

ErikM, the 4th shot was in a small rink we went to across town after the first batch. 2 games in 1 nite for some of the guys. Needless to say, they were quite tired.
Even the AHL rink had it's lights turned down to about 1/4 power compared to league games. This was about 2x brighter than most amateur rinks, getting me about 1/400s shutters at F2.8, ISO1600

I'm lucky to get 1/320 at f/2.8, ISO 3200 at most of the rinks here. There is one exception - Sheridan is outdoors and all the photographers love it ;) I was shooting 1/2000, f/5.6, ISO 400 this weekend.

Outdoors would be cool!
Also, keep in mind if you shoot thru the plexi, you lose about 1/3 - 2/3 of a stop.
I was shooting thru plexi at the pro rink, and on the bench at the amateur rink.
