Updated XTi?

So I'm thinking about buying a Canon XTi for myself for christmas, but I'm debating whether or not to wait for the ones coming out in late January. Right now the XTi is available for 600 at some places such as costco, amazon, circuit city, when other places it is 700. Does anyone know what this body update is going to contain? Will it raise the prices from amazon, costco, circuit city, etc or will they still stay around 600? I don't really want to spend 700 on my first DSLR, So if the prices do raise I probably will just buy the XTi now.

Thank you :) I'm hoping to get actively involved in this community before/after I get my DSLR, learn and help people as much as I can. I've been using film for a few years and am finally going to go digital.

Well I guess canon always reveals some cameras before PMA every year. On photographyblog.com it says that they are going to release updates to the XTi (400d) and the 5D. I would provide a link, but it's blocked on the internet I'm using right now. I'm just debating whether to wait or not. I'm trying to spend around 600 on a camera, spend other money on glass, and then update to another body later on. But I'm not sure if I should just buy an XTi now at 600 or wait until the new model arrives and hope that it stays at 600 which i'm not sure if it will >.<

I believe they said the announcements would be coming around January 24th. Probable announcements are the Rebel XTi and 5D replacements. There are some guesses on the details for them, but they're just guesses.

Even if new ones come out then, is it worth waiting to you? Are there features that you want that the current models do not have? The price of a new XTi right now is a steal. It is still a great camera and will be for quite some time.

If your only reason for waiting is to have the latest and greatest, you will always be waiting. IMHO

Ya, I'm a very avid follower of apple, so I know how that is along with most any company. I think I may just get the 400d, as the new 400d or 450d so they say only has a few new features and will probably be out of my price range.

i say if theyre gonna release a new updated version of xti it won't be near your budget range. i say enjoy the holiday and get that xti! i believe b&h has lower price. around 500.

I think you should buy your camera now, dont worry about the 450 i bet it wont come out in January. i think its a little to early for a new model already off the xti

Yeah, buy it now as the new version will be a lot pricier. It's still a great camera even if the new one has Live View added to it. $500 is such a great price.

you could always wait for the new to come out and then snatch up the old for a cheaper price perhaps? I've been keeping my eye on the Xti also.
