First try at this type of sport -- Took about 50 or so shots, and these were my best three, the first one had some editing the second one is straight from the camera, and the last one I caught just as I was putting the camera away, so it was far more candid than the others

24mm, F/4, 1/500 sec. ISO400

AH -- These are off in a national forest near ojai, CA
Pretty awesome highway, and not many people know about it other than the sportbike riders, so if you get there early you can find a lot.
Thanks!

Good shots... the first one is the best in my opinion. There are a few things you can do to make these better.

First, get in closer (if you dare)!

Second, use a smaller aperture that results in a shutter speed of about 1/60th or so... you will need to experiment. Use AI Servo focusing to pan the moving object while shooting. If you get it right you should have an image where the motorcyle is in focus and the background shows movement. You may also notice you can see movement in the motorcyle wheels as well :)

Thanks -- Attempted a slower shutter speed, but got frustrated, because my panning is not up to par.
Unfortunately, this particular road doesn't have the space to backup and use the zoom to get close. So I was at ~24mm, which means when the bike passes you have to MOVE.

Any suggustions?

Looks like you took that pic at the track -- How does that work? Do you need a special pass? Do you need permission from the group you are shooting?

Was thinking about renting some glass and heading out to the nearest track.

Thanks!

kooks like you had fun but be careful shooting that close It's real easy to forget safety looking through a viewfinder.
