View Full Version : Adding new photos to existing site

I wonder if anyone could give some advice on the following issue:

My site www.tonsbeek.com (http://www.tonsbeek.com) is mainly dedicated to macro photography and I spend a fair bit of time with Dreamweaver to get this all to look as simple and uncluttered as possible.

Now, as a result of having two rugby and hockey playing childeren, I have been adopted as their team photographer. This is a role I thoroughly enjoy but as you will see, I need a lot of further practice.

My problem is that it takes too much of my time to create these sports pages in the same way as my macro images, only to be viewed by the parents for one week. I have done it for the last batch of hockey photos (link at the bottom of my home page) but I have used JAlbum for the last batch of the rugby shots (again link at the bottom of the home page). This is much quicker but is is inconsistent with the rest of the site.

Now what I would love to find is software into which I can dump a batch of TIFFs or JPGs into a new directory with minimal hassle and still retain a clean, uncluttered look.

I have looked at Pekka's software but that seems a little beyond me to master.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,
Maarten

Why not get an account with soemthing like zenfolio/ smugmug and just upload your pictures. $30-40 per yr seems worth for it as you also have a backup in case something happens.

For ease of use and cost, yes you are right but then I have virtually no control over how it all looks. I have tried FlickR but was not that impressed with the presentation.

One option would be to modify the JAlbum skin code, such that the resulting album looks closer to the rest of your pages. You could add your logo, copyright, adjust colors, etc. That would let you continue to use JAlbum for the sports events, but have a custom site for the rest.

That's what I do, by the way, and I'm happy with it.

I thought your main issue was "My problem is that it takes too much of my time to create these sports pages in the same "

If you got all the time, nothing beats having your own site.

BTW - Zenfolio/Smugmug are tons better than look of Flickr. SmugMug pro account ($150) let you do lot more customization than say Zenfolio at $80. I got both as I am moving from smugmug pro to Zenfolio premium.
