Hi there,
After a lot of reading and deal hunting I purchased my G9 this evening.
The first one I got had one hot pixel on the sensor and about 4 on the LCD.
After getting them to exchange it [and them not having any clue what I was talking about] I discover my second one has another hot pixel.
This new hot pixel is a bit smaller and in a less deal-breaking position.
My question is:
Do I roll the dice and go for another exchange or do I contact canon for a repair?
Those of you who have dealt with this, please let me know what you've done. [I'm particularly interested in those of you who have contacted Canon for a repair]
Thanks!

If its on the LCD they won't warranty it. Check page 8 of the manual - "About The LCD Monitor". It says "more than 99.99% of the pixels operate to specification. Less than 0.01% of the pixels may occassionally misfire or appear as red or black dots. This has no effect on the recorded image and does not constitute a malfunction." 0.01% of 230,000 pixels in the LCD is 23 pixels.

Seriously, I am also curious to hear how this is dealt with as well. How does one know a bad hot pixel vs. one you can live with? I am new to hot pixels. No other camera I have ever had since this G9 has ever had a hot pixel that I could see. Now I suddenly have seven. Six of them are barely visible and one is glaring. I noticed them last night while shooting a concert. My G9 is barely a week old.

That many? I'm pretty sure that deserves an immediate exchange.

Man, that is a lot. Hot/dead pixels are an unfortunate reality as a sensor ages but I would not have expected so many on a new camera. If you are shooting raw and using ACR, it usually maps them out during the processing.

After further research on the subject, I believe the glaring one is what is referred to as a "stuck" pixel. The other six come and go with varying ISO and shutter speeds and can only be seen against very dark background. The stuck one stays the same intensity regardless of settings. Still, you have to zoom in pretty far to see any of them in an image.
