Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie around here, but I thought I would share some images from my latest attempt at studio work. I was pretty happy with the results considering my current lack of equipment. I basically took my husbands shop lights, opened the curtains and did a few other tricks and this is what I came up with... Let me know what you think. Any C&C's are welcome.

Thanks a bunch!

It is only in #'s 5 and 7 that the shadows are properly controlled.

In frames 1 through 4 I feel that the shadows are a little too harsh and the light is hitting the face horizontally. Better facial contours are revealed when the light is coming at the face in a diagonal from more above. Also, the quality of the facial contours are more appealing with softer shadows which can be accomplished with more fill light.

In my opinion #5 has the best pose/compostion.

Lighting techniques aside, you cut off her head in a few which I'm not fond of. The pictures seem a tad on the cold side.

I tend to agree with both of the above comments.
With that aside, I love the idea of the phone pic in #6.

You must not like album art. Most of the photographs have body parts cut at the boarder. Example below:

I don't like that album art... the bright forehead leading out of the image ruins it.... Tony

I agree 100%.
It looks like a gigantic mushroom tumor growing on top of her head.
Not to mention the grain - what were they shooting with- Tri-X?

I don't mind the "grain" but the bright forehead with no hair above to frame it looks really bad, and her eyes look dead because of the lack of catchlights. Two strikes!
