Hi All. I purchased a brand new EOS10D in April this year, I've made about 10.000 shots and last Monday (I was at Payerne Airshow in Switzerland watchin' aircrafts departing) my camera gave up. I heard a sinister sound during a shot, and an even more sinister message stating "error 99" (the worst) on the display. After that the camera did not make no more shots. Tried to change battery, lens, CF card with no results. Today I've returned the Camera to my dealer. Has anyone encountered a similar (tragic) problem? :(

It shouldn't have broken after 10 shots. ???? :?:

Oh sorry! I saw the decimal... forget it. I know someone has had this problem and has had it fixed.

Actually, by doing a search on Err 99 you will find numerous posts regarding this issue. Most relate to bad lens/body match ups, i.e. incompatible Sigma lenses or dirty contacts. But your sounds more like what happened to mine in the first month and less than 1,000 shutter cycles--your shutter has probably gone bad. They ended up replacing both my shutter and entire head of the camera where most of the electronics were (I still think there was also a problem with the sensor that determinse whether the camera is being horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait), thus the reason for replacing the camera head assembly)).

Yours should still be under warranty, so no cost to you--just the frustration of being without the camera. It took Canon twice to get mine right, but at least the second time they sent me a loaner to get through a crucial time.

Don't let this sour you on Canon or the Camera--both are outstanding. With this level of technology, it is tough to not have an occasional problem show up. As I've said before, BMWs, Rolex's, and other high end products within any area of technology have problems and break down (that's why there are warranties).

I had a similar problem with a d30.It just wouldn't work. turned out to be a bent pin in the card slot. Camera just wnt dead. I never heard of anyone else having that problem. Almost anything can go wrong at any given time. these are hi-tech machines. I hope you have good luck getting it fixed

Had the same problem with the shutter after approx 6000 shots. PW-service (danish rep center for canon. Said it was me ho done it to the camera. I complained but canon said the same.
I dident do anything unnormal with the camera (exepts taking photos).

But paid 200$ for the repair.

Now i hope that the shutter last long time i have now taken more then 1000 photos since the repair and i works.

I was talking to the folks at the Canon repair center in Southern California when I was getting the sensor cleaned on my Mk II. They told me they'd had a lot of 10Ds in for service, but mainly because of the back focus hysteria. In the vast majority of the cases, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the cameras. Obviously a failure of the shutter mechanism is a real problem (if that's what's wrong with yours), but I didn't get the impression the problem was widespread.

Good luck. The 10D is a wonderful piece of equipment, and I hate to see anyone having problems with theirs.

I am on over 10,800 pics and no problems I haven't been able to fix on the spot. You can find many more stories like mine...possibly with about 20,000 pics...
