I kept wanting to go to the park today to take some pictures that weren't at\around my house, for the first time in like.. a month...
But I never did... so I decided to play with an apple, and some flashlights...

I very much like where you're going with this.

I strongly recommend that you keep playing and see what you come up with. If possible try to find a somewhat more symmetrical apple. Also, in addition to the lighting that you have I would be be interested to see how it would look with some side lighting on the apple. Another thought would be to use the center of the apple (the area that is currently dark) to layer in a different photograph (that of a serpent perhaps?)

Thanks... at first I wasn't very happy with this, but I did some enhancing with paint shop pro, cloned out parts of the flashlight, and boosted the color...
Still am not totally happy with it, (wish I centered the apple better)

I am amazed with the background color... I had a bunch of white poster board, and it's pink\red lol... I love the look, I guess it was reflecting from the red of the apple on the back

I will keep playen around, since it's going to be raining for the rest of the week, I have something to do...
I can't wait to get my 430EX speedlite!!
I may get a shot of my freakishly awkward setup.... for all to see

I'm with Rad on this one - keep experimenting. Not only will you learn a lot, happy accidents happen all the time.

Keep us posted.

A different setup, I put a flashlight under a hole in my table, then I put a semi transparent lid over the hole, and I put the apple on it...
I lowered the color, and brightness in paint shop pro...

I used a few more lights, one I used to brighten up the background and the top of the apple, and I used a dim one to shine on the face of the apple... so it still has the dark effect, but you can actually see the apple now,
I really like this attempt... especially the glare on top of the apple.
