Anybody in the Raleigh Durham, CH area want to meet up? Or anywhere else? I was thinking maybe go for a hike on the Eno and shoot? I am very open to suggestions!

Hi Joe! I'm close to ya, sort of. I'm in Apex so if you ever wanna get together sometime, I'm down. Where is Eno?

Cool! This looks like a nice place! Have you been there before? I'm assuming the river is kind of run dry due to the drought but, I think it would be great for some photo opportunities. I have a few friends that might be down for something like this but, they aren't as hard core as me. Jk. :);)

Yup I have been kayaking down the Eno earlier this year. Not sure how it is looking right now. But I would like to go out there sometime with a group. Maybe go early morning for a shoot and grab some lunch afterwards?
Let me know what day works out for you.

Never done that one, but we did kayak on the Cape Fear a month or so ago. I live on the coast, in Vanceboro.

I might be game for the Eno if it's between the 2nd and 6th of January (going back to school). My dad's right down the road from the Eno park. Let me know what happens.

Jay D & Reed and everyone else interested -
How does the 2nd sound? I am planning going to Pa the 5th (if I can get up there). If it works for you guys, it works for me. What time would be good?
Reed Goodwin
23rd of December 2007 (Sun), 08:36
I think the 3rd might be a more sure date for me. I'm coming back from the mountains on the 1st, then I'm not exactly sure if I'll get to Hillsborough that night.

Hopefully I will have some new equipment by then :)

I checked my schedule and I can definitely do something on Jan 3rd or the 4th. I would do the weekend but, I'm working the 5th and 6th.

26th of December 2007 (Wed), 09:48
Alright, sweet! I just saw these. I didn't get an email notification of the replies. The third works for me. I will be getting back to Hillsborough on the 1st, but chances are it's gonna be rather late, haha. Well, when and where, I guess. Which parts of the park do you all want to go to. I have gone to the Fews Ford access point which also seems to be the part that "opens" earliest. I glanced at the river and it's low, but there's water there. What kind of things do you all want to shoot?

Hi Reed! I'm assuming we need a spot to meet. I guess maybe at Eno or somewhere in Raleigh? I shoot anything but pretty much anything that catches my eye. I guess we need to hear from jtalerico and see what he says. Thanks! Can't wait to meet you guys!!
Reed Goodwin
27th of December 2007 (Thu), 00:00
I'd vote for Eno, as I'll be in Hillsborough so Raleigh would be a good ways out of the way, especially if we're going to Eno anyways. I asked about going to the park before sunrise over the summer, but met some park resistance. It was never clear, though, whether it was just a parking issue as you can camp overnight. I'd be cool with going in the morning, like maybe right at opening or something and just seeing what we can find etc. I've only been to Few's Ford, so I'm not sure what's elsewhere.

Oh ok. Meeting at Eno won't be a problem than. Do you know what time the park opens?
Reed Goodwin
27th of December 2007 (Thu), 10:33
It opens at 8 at Fews Ford, and 8:30 at Pleasant Green and Cabe lands, and 9 at Cole Mill.

Jay D and Reed
Sorry for the late response! It has been pretty busy here... I am building a new house in Wake Forest and I am swamped with quotes and etc from vendors!
Reed I have been to the Eno, I went at the Durham entrance, not sure which one that was it was some time ago. I usually just get on HW70 and get off at the Eno Park exit (following the brown signs). 8 o'clock sounds fine to me. Does that work for the rest of you guys? Do you want to meet somewhere than head there? Or all meet at the park?

8 works for me. So, 8am, 1/3/07, Few's Ford access point (that what you were talking about, Joe?), and maybe park in the parking lot with the park office?

Sounds good. I will have to be out of there by at 12:30 or so. I have to be somewhere at 12:30. But that should give us a good amount of time to hike some of the Eno and for me to get some good shots.
Looking forward to this!
Joe.
And for the Record, I drive a 99 ML430.

Oh, I'm thinking that around 8am it's going to be closer to the mid- to low-20s. We're actually getting snow flurries right now, though I don't think it will amount to much at all, sadly. It would have been nice to see the park with some snow. Anyhow, see you all bright and early tomorrow!

How do you get to Few Ford? I was looking at the map and I am thinking hw70 to Pleasent Green to Cole Mill Road? Sound right?
Thanks,
Joe
Reed Goodwin
2nd of January 2008 (Wed), 12:19
Yeah, that sounds right. That's how I get there, at least. It's been a few months since I went there, but I think that once you get on Cole Mill Rd. there are fairly obvious signs to the park. I'm pretty sure that the park office is in the first parking lot.

Hey guys! Had a great time! I look forward to doing it again in the hopefully near future!
Digital Photo Professional is acting up on me.. It will only let me get the B/W images off the came :(. I just installed the Canon software on this laptop to try to get the images off, guess the Mac Book pro doesn't like Canon's software or it might be the new version of OS X...
Ahh anyway, I have no Photoshop on this laptop either... Enjoy the B/W images... lol

Thanks Reed! I like the 2nd shot the best of these three. I think the best times to take photos here is when it's lush or in the fall for some color. I definitely wanna come back here and try different perspectives from this part of the river. :)

The second one there is my favorite of those. I'd be interested in seeing the first one with the blues/magentas toned down a bit.
I went back there this morning. 15 degrees when I left the house a little before 8:30. Got to the park at 8:30 and spent the next 45 minutes standing as still as possible while stalking some deer. Ended up quitting when my fingers were really hurting. I could barely push the shutter button. I actually startled myself when I the camera finally took a couple shots after much trying. Anyhow, after thawing for a while and almost leaving, I decided to check the river out. A lot more ice today. I tried shots from the easier side of the river as I didn't want walk all the way to the bridge. I saw a belted kingfisher (looked it up when I got home) but didn't get any shots. I'm really glad it wasn't windy.
Cheers,
Reed

Alright, so school is insane. I finally got around to processing some of these. Many are crap but these three from our meet up made the cut, though I do like the 3:2 ratio versions a bit better of the first two, but I processed these for new desktop backgrounds.

Yeah yeah yeah. I know, I'm slow. I still need to fine-tune those black and whites. I'm excited about this snow stuff they're calling for. Hopefully I'll get out and get some shots. It's a pity I'm not some place really nice for snow shots, but oh well. I'll might post a few more shots from our meet once I process them. It's gonna be a hectic weekend with the snow and school work.
