Hi to all, today I receive a Alien Bee Kit. 1 B 800 for main light , 1 B 400 for fill light. Also 1 octabox and a silver umbrella.
My Questions is which can I use for main light ??. The umbrella or the octabox ??. Any suggestion or advice, some nice link, or great book for learn all about light???

There is no real right or wrong but I would use the octo as the key, a bounce card (white foamcore from hobby lobby) as the fill and the umbrella as a kicker.
A lot depends on what you're trying to accomplish though so try lots different setups and make the style your own.
For some good video's try the sticky at the top of this forum. It has some great YouTube clips to get you started.

Yes, the options are many and experimentation will help you learn.
Sometimes it may be wiser to use the B400 as main, since you can place it close and won't need too much power. B800 as fill will have more power to allow you to place it on a stand behind you. Remember, a light that's twice the distance from the subject will need four times the power to get the same amount of light.
Again, it's not a matter of right or wrong, but understanding how light works and considering all the options.
