I am trying to get active sports shots and I downloaded pictures from the camera and checked the shutter speeds and the highest I have gotten is 1/640 (picture is not very good).
How can I set the shutter speed to 1/1000 to 1/2000? The camera specs list shutter speeds up to 1/2000 so how does one get those shutter speeds?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

i belive only long shutter lengths can be controled via manual mode. short shutter lengths are calculated automatically only... cant change that :(

Xdjoynerx is correct I'm afraid. The only way I can think of possibly increasing the shutter speed would be to do an exposure lock on a dark subject. The camera would then use a faster shutter speed if you shot a lighter subject. Worth a try.

can you even do that on a s500?
yeah if you can do that though, aim it at the sun, and lock it. if its bright enough, you should easliy be able to lock it at 1000-2000
