I am about to do a shoot and need some lighting help. I have been using a barebulb pointed into a white reflctor on the left side of my model and a Sigma super 500 on my camera pointed strait up with a diffuser on it. My question is would I do better to remove the diffuser? Or even remove it and point it toward the model. I dont think on my last shoot I was able to get enough light to get a real sharp photo. I also have one of those yellow shop halogen lights I could put to the right if that would be advisable. I am shooting tomorrow and need help fast.

Unless you're shooting for b&w, don't mix flash and tungsten.

Up your ISO to where you can get 5.6 or 8. That shouldn't be a problem, especially if it's one person in the shot. Angle the on-camera light to between 45 & 60 degrees instead of straight up.

If you can get the barebulb/reflector close enough (just out of camera frame) and get the reflector large enough, the on-camera light would only need to be minimal in it's output in order to effect a nice fill, and you can also add a second reflector on the opposite side of your bare bulb /reflector to bounce light back at the subject's shadow side (white foam board / poster board is cheap!).

Do I leave the diffuser on the flash?

Wow, dont forget to shoot a grey card or something for some white balance reference later! Something tells me you are going to need it!
