Quick question...I have a 580 EX Flash / 30D and I am shooting a wedding with moderate lighting...The ceilings are at least 25 feet high. I am shooting the first kiss, the bride walking down the aisle, and other candid shots during the wedding, with and without flash. I want to know if my shutter speed is lower than 1/60th, will the pics show a blur even if I have the flash firing. What flash setting (manual/Ettl) should I be on with my 580, should I point the flash up? I want to shoot at Low ISO's if I can help it! Should I point the flash at the subject and turn the fraction down to 1/32 or 1/16th?
I am using a 17-85 mm for most shots, but I will be using a 70/200 F2.8 for some too. I want to purchase a 85 1.8, but I am still looking!

The shutter speed effect will depend upon the level of lighting inside the church, combined with the aperture on the lens chose and the ISO setting of the camera! All flash photos are TWO photos in one...1) from the ambient light and 2) from the flash; sometimes the ambient lighting is low and contrbutes little to nothing, other times it contributes a lot. IF you really think of it, sychro sun fill flash and main flash are both the same in having ambient+ flash...the fill might be 80:20 (ambient:flash) and the indoor shot has 10:90 (ambient:flash)

Not to be rude, but if you are having to ask flash questions like these, should you be shooting the wedding or should you have declined?! I hate to think of a very disapppointed bride seeing her previews from her 'big day'! I'm not going to give 'wedding and flash photography lessons in one message' so I won't address your other questions and leave that to others.

I totally understand what you are saying..I understand flash and ambient light..I am mainly doing traditional shots at the alter..with my 580 Master and my 430 Slaves with my umbrellas, that is easy. Channels and and groups are easy! I am just talking during the ceremony with my 70-200 F2.8 lens....I am just playing around a little before and during the wedding...and yes this is a small wedding and it is a favor..I get a free meal at the reception....I also have a 85mm 1.8 which is a great low light lens and fast glass.
